This study aims to:

Identify the different pharmacologic therapies that post-operative patients receive and their
effects
- Different pharmacologic techniques were identified for management of post-anesthesia
nausea and vomiting such as administration of Phenothiazines, antihistaminies, prokinetic
agents, serotonin, neurokinin, dorabinol, anticholinergic and corticosteroids
(dexamethasone) medications.

Identify the disadvantages and the risks that the identified pharmacologic therapies bring to the
post-operative patients
- Dexamethasone were proven to be a risk for acquiring post-operative infection due to its
steroid content

Provide a list of complementary techniques or therapies as alternate or in combination with


pharmacologic therapies, their advantages, and why it should be used in place of pharmacologic
therapies
- Various complementary techniques are distinguished to manage postoperative nausea and
vomiting; Acupressure and Acupuncture, Aromatherapy, Guided Imagery,
Electroacupuncture, Hypnosis Therapy, Music Therapy,
