3 (a) Making the right inference
The temperature of the gas affects the volume // The volume of 1 1
a fixed mass of gas is influenced by its temperature when its
pressure is constant
(b) Building an appropriate hypothesis
If the pressire of a fixed mass of gas is constant, its volume 1 1
wills increases when its temperature increases.

(c)(i) Stating the aim of the experiment

To investigate the relationship between the temperature, T and 1 1
the volume, V of a gas at constant pressure.

(ii) Stating the correct variables

Manipulated variable : Temperature of gas, T 1 2
Responding variable : Length of gas column // Volume of gas
Fixed / Constant variable : Pressure of gas // Mass of gas 1

(iii) List of apparatus and materials

(v) The procedure of the experiment, which include one method of
controlling the manipulated variable and one method of
controlling the responding variable.

1. The water was heated and stirred continuously. When the

temperature of the water increased by 20C, the Bunsen 1
burner was removed and the water continuously being
stirred.

2. The length column of gas, L, is measured using the metre

rule and recorded.

3. Step 2 and 3 were repeated with the temperature of 30C,

40C, 50C and 60C.
