Weiner gets 21 months for sexting underage girl

Weiner was sentenced Monday to 21
months in prison, facing the most severe
penalty yet in connection with the sexting
scandal that drove the New York Democrat
out of Congress and ruined his marriage.
Weiner, 53 burst into tears as he was
sentenced for sending sexually explicit
messages to an underage girl.
He pleaded guilty in May to transfer-
ring obscene material to the minor and
agreed not to appeal against a prison sen-
tence of 27 months or less.
Weiner, quit Congress in 2011 over a
sex scandal and was again exposed in his
2013 run for New York mayor.
His lawyers had asked a US District
Judge for probation instead of jail. But in
sentencing Weiner, US District Judge

that deserves serious punishment."
She also said Weiner "has a disease. He
has compulsivity. Some say a sex addic-

old to display her naked body and engage
in sexually explicit behaviour for him on-
line". "Justice demands that this type of
conduct be prosecuted and punished with
time in prison."
In addition to jail time, Weiner was
sentenced to three years of supervised re-
lease, according to a statement from the
US Attorney's Office. Weiner's lawyers
contended the former politician had acted
out of the "depths of an uncontrolled sick-
ness" and was now seeking treatment.
In a letter to Judge Cote, Weiner said
he felt "profound" regret for his crimes and
that his misconduct had "crushed the aspi-
rations" of his wife, Huma Abedin, and ru-
ined their marriage. Ms Abedin filed for
divorce on the same day as her husband
was found guilty in May.
She did not attend the sentencing, but
asked for leniency on their son's behalf in
a letter to the judge.
The FBI began investigating Weiner
last September after the Daily Mail re-
ported that he had exchanged obscene
messages with a North Carolina teenager.
The 15-year-old girl said he had asked her
to undress on camera.
Once a rising Democratic star, he
stepped down from Congress in June 2011
after a graphic image sent from his Twitter
account went public. Initially claiming his
account was hacked, he eventually con-
fessed to having lied.

is the fifth source in Guyanas oil explo-
ration. US based oil giant, Exxon Mobil
Corporation on Thursday announced it
made a fifth new oil discovery after
drilling the Turbot-1 well offshore
Guyana.
Turbot is ExxonMobils latest discov-
ery to date in Guyana, adding to previous
discoveries at Liza, Payara, Snoek and
Liza Deep.
Following completion of the Turbot-
1 well, the Stena Carron drillship will
move to the Ranger prospect an addi-
tional well on the Turbot discovery is
being planned for 2018.
ExxonMobil affiliate Esso Explo-
ration and Production Guyana Ltd. began
drilling the Turbot-1 well in August and
encountered a reservoir of 75 feet of high-
quality, oil-bearing sandstone in the pri-
mary objective, said ExxonMobil in a
statement.
The well was safely drilled to 18,445
feet in 5,912 feet of water on September
29.
The Turbot-1 well is located in the
southeastern portion of the Stabroek
Block, approximately 30 miles to the
southeast of the Liza phase one project.
The results from this latest well further
illustrate the tremendous potential we see
from our exploration activities offshore

Girls Get
HPV Vaccine

he Jamaican Health Ministry is implor-
ing parents and guardians to protect
their daughters against cervical cancer by
allowing them to be inoculated with the
Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
Since October 2, the Ministry began
offering the vaccine to girls in grade seven,
free of cost.
The initiative falls under a $100 mil-
lion school-based programme in collabora-
tion with the Ministry of Education, Youth
and Information.
The move is a proactive measure by
the Government to protect girls against cer-
vical cancer, which takes the lives of hun-
dreds of women in the country per year and
hundreds of thousands more worldwide.
Speaking at a HPV media sensitization
forum at the University of the West Indies
(UWI) Mona Campus on September 29,
Health Minister, Dr. the Hon. Christopher
Tufton said 22,500 girls will be targeted
under the initiative, noting that two doses
will be given six months apart for full pro-
tection.
He said the vaccine is not mandatory
and assured the public that the programme
is not a trial and error process.
It is a tried and proven approach that
is intended to make our population healthier
as it relates to the risk of cervical cancer. I
am confident that we are doing the right
thing. I am confident that Jamaica needs
this, our young girls, our young women; I
am confident that it is the right step towards
dealing with the risk that is at hand, he
said.
He informed that over 200 million
doses of the vaccine has been applied to pa-
tients worldwide, adding that more than 70
countries, including more than 20 in Latin
America and the Caribbean have already in-
troduced the HPV vaccine.
Minister Tufton said the initiative is a
proactive move by the Government, point-
ing out that 392 women are diagnosed with
cervical cancer in Jamaica each year while
185 women die from the disease annually,
The most common cancers in Jamaica
are prostate, lung and colorectal in men;
and breast, cervical and colorectal cancers
in women. Prostate and breast cancers are
the leading cause of cancer-related deaths.

internment followed at Kensico Cemetery
in Valhalla.

the salon in tears exclaiming you are after a

abandoned his dying son after he crashed
his car.
Christopher Kuhn, 27, of Hamilton,
was fleeing a Walmart in Levittown, Pa.
on Tuesday after he allegedly stole $228
worth of speakers. When he jumped in his
car he hastily placed his son inside the car
without buckling him in, FOX 29 re-
ported.

seat, Kuhn reportedly rushed to conceal
his license plate with a sweatshirt. He
then drove away, and ran a red light, sub-
sequently crashing into two other vehi-

1. Keep portions smaller than your fist.
Its easy to overeat when you have too
much food on your plate. Smaller portions
help prevent overeating. Overeating can
make health problems worse, especially if
you have diabetes. One way to control
overeating is to reduce portion sizes when
you eat. For most foods, a reasonable
portion is to 1 cup about the size of a
womans fist. Even if your fist is larger
than that, it is still a handy measuring tool
that goes everywhere you go. Just keep
your portions smaller than your fist.
The two most common exceptions
are: Lean meat, chicken and fish. For
these foods, keep portions the size of a
deck of cards (about half the size of your
fist) and trim all visible fats before cook-
ing. Plain vegetables, including salads
without dressing. You can have as much
as you want because these foods are nu-
tritious, filling and low in calories.
2. Control your hunger with filling
foods that are low in calories. Foods
such as lower-sodium soup, salad, fruits
and vegetables can help fill you up with-
out adding a lot of calories. These foods
will satisfy hunger and help you lose
weight.
Research shows that people feel less
hungry when they eat a certain volume
(amount) of food. High-fiber foods, such
as fruits and vegetables, can provide a
feeling of fullness and also digest slowly.
That helps you feel satisfied longer so you
eat less.
3. Keep track of what you eat. When
you keep track of what you eat, you're
more likely to meet your food goals. Stud-
ies show that keeping a food log or diary
helps people lose weight and keep it off.
4. Make trade-offs to reduce how much
sodium, saturate and trans fat and
sugar you eat. Foods high in fat and
sugar are often high in calories, too. But
that doesn't mean you have to give up
your favorite foods. Learn to make trade-
offs instead. If you want to indulge in
your favorite dessert, enjoy a smaller por-
tion and eat a lower-calorie meal.
5. Enjoy more physical activity. As you
already know, regular physical activity is
important for keeping your heart healthy.
Increasing physical activity may help you
lose weight and strengthen your heart at
the same time. If you feel you need extra
support to lose weight, look for a weight-
loss program that's been proven safe and
successful.

Many first-time entrepreneurs feel the need to
jump at every "opportunity" they come across.
Opportunities are often wolves in sheep's cloth-
ing. Avoid getting side-tracked. Juggling multi-
ple ventures will spread you thin and limit both
your effectiveness and productivity. Do one
thing perfectly, not 10 things poorly. If you feel
the need to jump onto another project, that might
mean something about your original concept.
Know what you do. Do what you know.
Don't start a business simply because it seems
sexy or boasts large hypothetical profit margins
and returns. Do what you love. Businesses built
around your strengths and talents will have a
greater chance of success. It's not only important
to create a profitable business, it's also important
that you're happy managing and growing it day
in and day out. If your heart isn't in it, you will
not be successful.
Say it in 30 seconds or don't say it at all.
From a chance encounter with an investor to a
curious customer, always be ready to pitch your
business. State your mission, service and goals
in a clear and concise manner. Fit the pitch to the
person. Less is always more.

Avoid exaggerating truths and touting far reach-
ing goals as certainties. In short, put up or shut
up.
Know when to call it quits.
Contrary to popular belief, a smart captain does
not go down with the ship. Don't go on a fool's
errand for the sake of ego. Know when it's time
to walk away. If your idea doesn't pan out, reflect
on what went wrong and the mistakes that were
made. Assess what you would have done differ-
ently. Determine how you will utilize these hard-
learned lessons to better yourself and your future
entrepreneurial endeavors. Failure is inevitable,
but a true entrepreneur will prevail over adver-
sity.
