In an
electrolyte solution, a salt dissociates into its constituent ions,
and the solution exhibits appreciable ionic conductivity. For the
dissolution of a salt in solution to occur, the cation or anion
should be solvated by the solvents. The solvention and ion
ion interactions have significant effects on the physicochemical
properties of electrolyte solutions. Aprotic polar solvents with high dielectric
constants and strong donating ability are frequently used for
the electrolyte solutions of lithium batteries.
