INTRODUCTORY COMMENT
When the people are gathered, the introductory comment is read.
Commentator:
The Religious profession is a sign of a loving encounter between the Lord who calls
and the disciple who responds by giving himself totally to God and to his brothers and
sisters. By publicly binding himself in the eyes of the Church, through whose ministry he
is more intimately consecrated to the service of God, the Salesian begins a new life,
which is lived out in a service of permanent dedication to the young (C 23). Religious
Profession is one of the highest choices a Christian can consciously make, an act which
recalls and fulfills the mystery of his baptismal covenant by giving it a deeper and fuller
expression.
The Salesian Society is made up of clerics and laymen who complement each other as
brothers in living out the same vocation (C 4). Today, we are particularly blessed to
witness a loving encounter between God and his servants, through the perpetual
profession of:

(Short Pause)
As we celebrate the joyful feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to her
cousin Elizabeth, let us join in the singing of the processional hymns as we welcome our
celebrant, Fr Anthony Paul Bicomong SDB, superior of the Salesians of the Philippine
North Province, together with the concelebrating priests and assisting ministers. Let us
stand.
INRODUCTORY RITES
Rite of Perpetual Profession (May 31, 2017) 3
The Priest approaches the altar with the ministers while the Entrance Chant is sung.
When he has arrived at the altar, after making a profound bow with the ministers, the
Priest venerates the altar with a kiss and, if appropriate, incenses the cross and the altar.
Celebrant:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the
Holy Spirit.
. Amen.

Celebrant:
Let us pray.
A
lmighty ever-living God,
who, while the Blessed Virgin Mary was
carrying your Son in her womb,
inspired her to visit Elizabeth,
grant us, we pray, that, faithful to the promptings of
the Spirit,
we may magnify your greatness

GOSPEL (Lk 1,39-56)
And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord
should come to me?
M
ary set out
and traveled to the hill country in haste
to a town of Judah,
where she entered the house of
Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.
When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting,
the infant leaped in her womb,
and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit,
cried out in a loud voice and said,
"Most blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
And how does this happen to me,
that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
For at the moment the sound of your greeting
reached my ears,
the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
Blessed are you who believed
that what was spoken to you by the Lord
would be fulfilled."

themselves to the Lord by perpetual profession in the Salesian

HOMILY
EXAMINATION OR DIALOGUE CONCERNING
COMMITMENT
After the homily and a brief period of silent reflection the candidates stand; the
Superior questions them about their willingness to freely and definitively offer
themselves to God and their fellow men in these words:
Superior:
My dear sons, the grace of God our Father has
consecrated you through the gift of his Spirit and has
sent you to be apostles of the young. Are you now
resolved to offer yourselves definitively to God?

Professandi:
I am, so as to be able to follow Christ and work with him
for the building of the Kingdom.
Superior:
The Lord directed Don Bosco to the young, and
especially the poorer ones among them, as the first
and principal beneficiaries of his mission. Are you
resolved to realize the mission of our Founder for the
service of youth, by the generous offering of your
time, health and personal endowments?
Professandi:
I am so resolved, so as to be in the Church a witness to
the inexhaustible love of the Son of God.
Superior:
To live and work together is for us salesians a
fundamental requirement and a sure way of fulfilling
our vocation; this is why we come together in
communities. Are you resolved to share everything in
a family spirit with the brothers with whom you live,
and to remain in communion with all the members of
our Society and to be members and animators of the
Salesian Family?

Professandi:

PROFESSION
Two perpetually professed religious stand near the Superior to act as witnesses.
The candidates come one by one (with lighted candles in hand) before the Superior and
read the formula or profession, previously written out in their own hand.
All read the first part of the formula together:
God my Father,
You consecrated me to Yourself
on the day of my baptism.
In response to the love of the Lord Jesus Your Son,
who calls me to follow him more closely,
and led by the Holy Spirit
who is light and strength,
with complete freedom,
I offer myself totally to You.
I pledge myself
to devote all my strength
to those to whom You will send me,
especially to young people who are poorer;
to live in the Salesian Society
in communion of spirit and action with my brothers,
and in this way to share in the life and mission of Your
Church.
18 Seminaryo ng Don Bosco Paraaque City
Then each one continues individually (in their own native language):
And so, in the presence of my brothers,
and before Rev Fr Anthony Paul Bicomong, SDB who
takes the place of the Rector Major
of the Society of St Francis de Sales,
I, N. N. , make the vow for ever
to live obedient, poor and chaste
according to the way of the Gospel
set out in the Salesian Constitutions.
Father, may Your grace,
the intercession of Mary Help of Christians,
of St Joseph, of St Francis de Sales,
and of St John Bosco,
together with the assistance of my brother Salesians
keep me faithful day by day.
If the newly professed is holding a lighted candle hands it to the deacon and then goes
to the altar on which the sheet bearing the formula of profession is placed and signs
the official document, indicating by this gesture the close connection between the
offering of his own life and the mystery of the Passover of Christ who becomes present
on the altar. He then returns to his place.
Commentator:
Let us stand.
Superior:
O God, source of all holiness,
your love for man was so great
that you gave him a share in your own divine life,
calling him to be holy as you are holy;
to you be praise from every living creature.
The Superior and other perpetually professed confreres welcome the newly professed
with a fraternal embrace or other suitable gesture.
While this is taking place a hymn may be sing (e.g. Psalm 132), or a discreet musical
background may be provided.
The rite of profession concludes with the presentation of the cross bearing the image of
Christ the Good Shepherd.
The professed approach the Superior one by one; he gives to each of them the symbol
of the salesian consecration and mission, saying:
OFFERTORY HYMN
The Priest, standing at the altar, takes the paten with the bread and holding it slightly
raised above the altar with both hands, saying in a low voice:
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
for through your goodness we have received the
bread we offer you:

Then the Priest, standing at the side of the altar, washes his hands, saying quietly:
Wash me, O Lord, from my iniquity
and cleanse me from my sin.
Celebrant:
Pray, brethren (brothers and sisters),
that my sacrifice and yours
may be acceptable to God,
the almighty Father.
The people rise and reply:
May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the
praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good
of all his holy Church.
M
ay our offering of this saving sacrifice

as you were pleased to accept the charity
of the most Blessed Mother of your Only
Begotten Son.

PREFACE

The Lord be with you.
. And with your spirit.
. Lift up your hearts.
. We lift them up to the Lord.
. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

HOLY
EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II
The Celebrant:
You are indeed Holy, O Lord,
the fount of all holiness.
Celebrant with concelebrants
Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,
by sending down your Spirit upon them like the
dewfall,
so that they may become for us
the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

MEMORIAL ACCLAMATION
Celebrant with Concelebrants
Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his Death
and Resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the Bread of
life and the Chalice of salvation, giving thanks that
you have held us worthy to be in your presence and
minister to you.

Humbly we pray
that, partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ, we
may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
LAMB OF GOD
Then he takes the host, breaks it over the paten, and places a small piece in the chalice,
saying quietly:
May this mingling of the Body and Blood
of our Lord Jesus Christ
bring eternal life to us who receive it.
Then the Celebrant, with hands joined, says quietly:
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God,
who, by the will of the Father
and the work of the Holy Spirit,

COMMUNION SONG
M
ay your Church proclaim
your greatness, O God,
for you have done great things for your
faithful, and, as Saint John the Baptist
leapt with joy
when he first sensed the hidden
presence of Christ,
so may your Church rejoice to receive
in this Sacrament the same ever-living Lord.
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
. Amen.
Commentator:
Please be seated. One of the newly professed will address the assembly.
PERPETUANDUS SPEECH
After the speech, the Commentator announces the order for the picture-taking and the
venue of the reception. In the following words:
May we remind everyone of the following:
1. Immediately after this liturgical celebration, as the recessional hymn is sung, the
picture-taking by groups will be done as guided by the commentator.
2. After this, may we invite the invited guests to proceed to the Parish Gymnasium
for lunch.
3. Let us all stand.
Then the newly professed may come before the altar, and the Superior, with hands
extended over the people, invokes upon them and on all the assembly the Lords
blessing in the following words:
The Lord be with you.
. And with your spirit.
The Deacon:
Bow down for the blessing.
Celebrant:
May God, who inspires all holy desires,
enlighten and strengthen you,
so that you may be faithful to your promises.
. Amen.
May he enable you to follow in the joy of Christ
the narrow way of the Gospel you have chosen,
