Energy Saving Options GEA Close Control
T-Range

T Range air conditioning units incorporate all of the energy/cost saving benefits for
which Denco products are renowned. These include:
Ambicool (Glycol freecooling system) - "F" Version
(not available on models 48 83)
This substantially reduces annual energy consumption, and
consequently costs, by exploiting low average ambient
temperatures to provide partial or full freecooling. It is very
unusual to experience the design summer ambient for any
length of time, and external temperatures are generally
considerably less for much of the year. This allows the
drycooler to produce glycol at lower temperatures.
When the glycol is colder than the room air, it is passed
through the economy coil before reaching the condenser,
picking up some heat directly from the room rather than via
the refrigeration system. Under conditions such as this, the
compressor run time is reduced, thereby saving energy. As
an example, some degree of freecooling is usually
available for 70% of the year in northern Europe, giving
very substantial running cost savings.

Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) - "V" Option

This provides various compressor options for efficient part-
load performance, with exceptional economy.

Full Cooling Load

Both compressors running to circulate the full design
refrigerant flow in order to achieve specified maximum
cooling capacity. The scroll compressor coefficient of
performance (COP) is typically 3.5.

Part Load Operation

Lead compressor only running to circulate approximately
60% of the refrigerant flow. Evaporator and condenser are
both oversized under this condition, causing increase in
suction pressure and a reduction in discharge pressure.
Resultant part-load COP increases to typically 5.0.
Secondary benefits include reduced temperature swing and
increased compressor reliability caused by reduced cycling
and an optional two-stage high-pressure trip. Lower inrush
current and inbuilt redundancy is also provided by dual
compressors and reduced humidifier run time due to the
very high sensible heat ratio achieved at the higher
evaporating temperatures. Payback period is typically less
than one year.

Plinth
For upflow units, a standard plinth is available that raises the Air Handling Unit
200mm (or 400mm) from the floor level to facilitate services entry. It is a plain
sheetmetal box supplied complete with gasket and fixing bolts, and finished to match
the Air Handling Unit.

Base Stand
When the Air Handling Unit is to be installed before the installation of a raised floor, a
matching Base Stand should be used to support it. This consists of a rigid frame of
6mm thick MS angle complete with adjustable feet. The upper face of the frame is
lined with 3mm semi hard gasket. When ordering, specify the nominal height
required, which normally will be the same as the overall height of the raised floor.
The feet have an adjustment of 25mm.

Ceiling Return Duct

The Ceiling Return Duct is a rigid riveted sheetmetal assembly comprising of unit
matched panels lined with 25mm thick insulation. The duct, which is suitable for
downflow units only, is bolted to the top of the Air Handling Unit on site. When
ordering, specify the height between the top of the Air Handling Unit and the under
side of the suspended ceiling. The overall height of the duct will be this dimension
plus 50mm.

Horizontal Discharge Section

The Horizontal Discharge Section consists of a double deflection grille fitted into a
rigid sheetmetal box. The complete assembly is bolted to the top of the Air Handling
Unit on site. The grille has two sets of blades, which allow for both vertical and
horizontal directional adjustment of airflow. The standard height for this section is
500 mm.

Ceiling Discharge Section

For upflow units, where the Air Handling Unit is required to discharge into the ceiling
void, a Ceiling Discharge Extension is available. This consists of a rigid riveted
sheetmetal assembly comprising of unit matched front; rear and end panels lined
with 25 mm thick insulation. The extension is bolted to the top of the Air Handling
Unit on site. When ordering specify the height between the top of the Air Handling
Unit and the underside of the suspended ceiling. The overall height of the duct will be
this dimension plus 50 mm.

High Efficiency Filters

Higher specification filtration can be provided in place of the standard filters having
an efficiency of 80% ASHRAE 52/76 (Eurovent F7). Pre filters are fitted, before the
main high efficiency filters, and are rated as G2. These filters are fitted in the return
airside of the Air Handling Unit within the main cabinet.

Filter Gauge
A dial type manometer can be installed to read the pressure drop across the filter to
give an accurate indication of filter condition.

Fresh Air Kit and Filter

Units can be supplied with a fresh air inlet connection and disposable fresh air filter
element. This will admit approximately 35 % of the recirculated air volume. One or
two may be fitted depending on requirements.

Special Colours
Special Colours must be specified when ordering the Air Handling Unit (quote British
Standard number, RAL number, or other, if known). If more than one colour is
specified then state the colour of each panel.

Double Skin Panels

To reduce the sound "break out", Double Skin Panels comprise: - 20 swg steel sheet
glued to the inner face of all outer panels then covered with standard 25mm class O
insulation.

Without Electric Heating

All equipment associated with electric heating is removed from the Air Handling Unit.

LPHW Heating (not available on models 48 83)

Units may be fitted with a Low Pressure Hot Water heating coil in place of the
standard electrical heating. Water flow through the coil is controlled by a modulating
3 way valve. Duties of these coils are nominally the same as standard electric
heating, based on flow and return hot water temperatures of 82 C and 71 C
respectively.

Water Detection
Water Sensors, connected directly to the water detection module of the Air Handling
Unit microprocessor control system, are located in: -
- Condensate drain pan detecting undue water level.
- Underfloor water tape, supplied loose with 5 metres of cable.
When water is detected, the Air Handling Unit's alarm system is activated and
disables humidifier function.

Sump Pump
Where, due to location, it is not possible to gravity drain units, a sump pump can be
fitted to collect any condensate and pump it to the nearest convenient drain point
(maximum available pump head 5.7 metres). For units fitted with humidifiers, a larger
capacity sump pump is available to accommodate the additional discharge of hot
water during humidifier drain down cycles (maximum available pump head 7 metres).
Please note that when using a sump pump a minimum of a 200 mm high plinth is
required.

VRF System
To provide energy saving and thereby limit emission of greenhouse gases that
contribute to global warming, models 23 and above are supplied with the variable
refrigerant flow (VRF) compressor configuration. By applying these models to smaller
loads, even greater energy savings will be realised, due to the very high part load
efficiency.

Electronically Controlled Fans

For applications where high airflow is not required and noise is a major
consideration, then fans with variable speed motors can be fitted. The motors are 3
phase variable frequency but only a single phase feed is provided. The airflow
provided by the fan(s) is determined by a 0 10 Vdc signal that is generated from
the cooling demand via the controls. The lower the cooling demand the lower the
airflow and vice versa. For this option, a reduced heating capacity will be necessary.

Condenser Fan Pressure Switch

A Condenser Fan Pressure Switch can be fitted to the Unit to replace the standard
fan speed controller on "A" versions.

Screwed Water Connections

BSP screwed fittings supplied instead of the standard copper solder connections on
W and C versions.

Hot Gas By Pass

"A" versions can be fitted with hot gas by pass compressor capacity control. This
consists of a hot gas control valve in the by pass line between the discharge line of
the compressor and the evaporator coil suction header, with the sensing line fitted in
the suction line.

Refrigerants
Alternative refrigerants R134a and R410A are available as standard options on
request.

Hand/Auto Switches
A hard wired switch assembly, fitted in the electrical control panel can be used as
manual override or as automatic control function, and is intended as an aid to
commissioning engineers.

Run Status
Run Status is achieved by volt free terminals, located in the electrical box, for remote
monitoring of the unit run (fans) operation.

Controller Remote Display

The C3-05 Controller Display can be supplied remote from the Air Handling Unit,
complete with interconnecting cable up to 1 kilometre.

Monitoring Display
The Monitoring Display can be connected to a network of C3-05 Controllers to
enable complete Air Handling Unit monitoring.

Electronic Expansion Valve (EEV)

On DX units the EEV option can be fitted to replace the standard TEV. This consists
of a valve, electronic driven module, pressure transducer and temperature sensor
per refrigerant circuit.

Discharge Pressure Transducer

On DX units a pressure transducer can be fitted to monitor the discharge pressure. It
is recommended that the EEV option it fitted with the Discharge Pressure
Transducer.

Remote Temperature and Humidity Sensor

The temperature and humidity sensors Unit, fitted with the required length of cable
(up to a maximum of 25 metres), can be supplied remote from the Air Handling.

Winter Start Kit (ELATE)

Generally recommended for temperatures between 25 C and 40 C, and
comprises horizontal type liquid receiver with trace heater and pressure relief valve
situated in a special section below the air cooled Condensing Unit / Condenser.
However a base section will be required and will increase the overall height of the
horizontal blow Condensing Units / Condensers by 400 mm.

Trend Interface Card

The Trend interface is a small pcb which can be plugged into the C3-05 controller to
provide it with Trend network capability.
The interface needs to be configured in order that the required controller variables
are linked to appropriate Trend parameters; these then become accessible via the
Trend network using standard Trend (text) communications. The interface provides
CNC functionality.
- Flexible number of configuration modules
- Peer to peer communications (IC Comms)
- Suitable for field installation
- Display and directory modules
