Field Experience Assignment #2
1. Classroom Drawing
a-d. Drawing and sections are attached
e. I honestly would leave this classroom mostly how it is. The desks are set up so the
class is divided in half, so they are pretty much both facing each other. In this sense, it
keeps them more aware of their classmates and to look at the teacher when she was
teaching in front of all of them. I would only change the angle of the desks so it would be
towards to front of the class. With this, more of the attention and body position would be
focused on the board and teacher, and less on their peers.
2. Classroom Arrangement
a. Yes, the arrangement was proper for the goals and activities. Most of the class, they
were having an open discussion where they could look and listen to the majority of their
peers faces.
b. No there wasnt any focus on making sure the high traffic area wasnt free of
congestion. The highest traffic was the entrance of the class, where most of the handouts
and papers were set up. This caused plenty of traffic issues and distractions in the class.
c. Yes, the teacher could easily just peer around the class and see all the students.
This is because the main teacher position was in the middle of the class, where the
overall distance from her to the back of the class is shortened compared to if she was
teaching from the front.
d. Yes, any tools for the students or teachers were available for all of the students and the
teacher. They were all on an open desk ready for use.
e. Yes, any display or presentation that was occurring, the students were able to see what
was going on whether they were in the front, back, or in between.

3. Classroom Strengths/Weaknesses
This classroom is primarily well arranged. The majority of the students were
were comfortable in taking advantage of the tools in the classroom, interacting with
other students when prompted to, and especially to remain under proper supervision of
the teacher. The only real weaknesses were the the classrooms entrance was bundled up,
that the angles of the desks were so they directly faced each other instead of the teacher.
If this was fixed, there would be less entrance traffic, plus more of the focus in the class
would be focused on the learning instead of conversing with peers.
4. Observing Students
a. There was about 30 students in the class of balanced gender and were either 17-18.
b. Yes, there were isolates. There were students who did not participate in the class
discussion or actual work, as well as falling asleep or dazing off when the teacher was
lecturing.
c. The students in the front raised their hands the most often, and the ones who always
seemed to be listening the most.
d. The students who sit in the back were either the isolates or the students who decided
to talk to their buddy instead of actually learning.
e. The students who got the most praise were the ones who always gave their opinion or
story on the subject, as they could make it more personal and important to them.
f. The isolates were practically always ignored, the teacher didnt care to help them learn
as much as they cared to make them stop goofing off.
5. Summary of students
The students were heavily mixed. Almost all of them were very opinionated though. No
matter who they were, they entered the class with some preconceived mindset. They
wanted to only talk to their friends, participate to get a good grade, or show up to do
nothing. The teacher didnt seem to want to help much in changing any sort of negative
mindset. With that said, being a student in this school seems to be a life where you have
to be independent in a sense, where if you dont care about your education, nobody will.
