Children spend most of the day in whole group time. Doing
workbooks, or in non-interactive small groups.
2. Page 157- Inappropriate
Teachers speech is mostly one-way. Much more often telling
children things than conversing with or listening to them.
3. Page 153- Appropriate
Teachers organize that daily schedule to allow for periods of
alternating active and quiet time, nutrition, and naptime.
Section 2. Curriculum (make appointment with teacher for interview)
Documentation/Examples (15 points)
A. Philosophy
1. Teacher's philosophy (interview of teacher)
Every Child learns in a different way. It is important to understand this,
in order to provide the right development for that child.
2. Center/School philosophy (copy of statement)
Discovery Academy partners with families to embrace a life-long learning
endeavor for children. With the assistance of the parents we are able to
develop a well-rounded child both at home and school. Discovery Academy
understands the importance of a cohesive environment for your child. We
work with every family to ensure each childs academic, social, and
emotional success throughout their schooling experience.
B. Goals (What children are expected to learn)

1. Program goals (should be found in parent handbook)

Discovery Academy was founded on the principle that
every child has the right to a high quality education. Our
goal is to create an exciting environment that will inspire
children to love learning. Interactive lessons are taught by
highly trained educators. Pre- selected programs and
materials create consistent results in each of our
classrooms. Children leave feeling empowered to overcome
obstacles they meet.
2. Classroom goals (interview of teacher)
It is very important for children to increase their academic
potential. I focused on helping children learn and connect
letters with sounds instead of memorizing. This helps
facilitate the ability for a child to learn to read at a young
age.
C. Lesson Plans (A copy of at least one weeks plans)
D. Individualization (interview of teacher concerning planning for
individual children's needs/learning styles/etc.)
We provide a variety of ways for a child to grasp a concept. Instead of just
showing flashcards, we incorporate music even dancing. I provide
sensory activities to let children experience with a hands on.
*E. EVALUATION (15 points)
1. Page 154- Inappropriate
