Film Review: Moana, The Disney Princess who Gives Inspiration

Its been so long since we last watched the Disney Princess stories on the big
screen. Three years after the success of Frozen, now the newest Disney Princess is back
to bring a more modern and brave, Moana.

Against this background of beautiful Polynesian islands, the main character

Moana (Aulii Cravalho) is a daughter of the chieftain in small island called Motunui. As
her name which means ocean in a Polynesian language, since a very small Moana
wants to sail across the ocean, but is always thwarted by his father, Chief Tui (Temuera
Morrison) who considers dangerous sea. The beautiful view of the blue sea and daughter
desperate characters slightly reminiscent of The Little Mermaid (1989). The difference is
Moana does not add frills search of romance and Prince Charming is a cliche. Its 2016,
duh!

Just like Mulan (1998), Moana eventually has to fight to save her homeland from
destruction caused by Te Fiti. According to the myth of the grandmother (Rachel House),
Te Fiti was a goddess of the island and the creator of all life. Te Fiti heart in the form of
green stone was stolen by a man half-god Maui (Dwayne Johnson), causing Te Fiti anger
and destroyed the surrounding islands. Maui Moana task is to encourage the stone to
restore its original position. It turns out that the nature of Maui is very difficult to set and
loves freely.
 When the center gets a new assignment to become a leader, Moana is getting an
exam. There is a mysterious occurrence that can not be resolved only on the island alone.
In order to save people, this little girl is determined to cross the ocean and see Maui
(Dwayne The Rock Johnson), such a demigod.

The Different Character of a Little Girl

Moana is indeed tells about a Disney girl. But this little girl presents a different
story from the other Disney girls. This film also focuses on the struggle Moana saving
people and finds her identity.

Storyline of Film is Very Disney

Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker who have experience as writers of
older Disney films like The Little Mermaid and Aladdin, Moana are arguably very
Disney magical, but cliche. Its just another story about a brave princess who is
looking for his destiny, to go adventuring, interspersed with many scenes of singing, and
with all the wonders she is finally able to return safely.

Lately, Disney is keen dispensing this formula with spices modern and feminism,
which proved a great success over Frozen (2013). Compared Frozen laden with anti-
modern message-Disney classics such as Prince Charming is not all that good or do
not be married to any man, it feels somewhat hollow Moana; is predictable and does not
offer anything new.

Good Animation and Soundtrack

Even so, Moana still has good animation. Blue seas, white sand and lush tropical
forests are described with great detail and realistic, make the audience feel the warmth in
the middle of the Polynesian Islands. The songs are very pleasing and in accordance with
the ethnic atmosphere. No wonder, the Moana soundtrack is composed by Lin-Manuel
Miranda, creator of musical theater Hamilton who won Tony Awards, Grammys, to
Pulitzer. Even though there are some songs that do not fit with the scene, but the
melodious voices of Aulii Cravalho and Dwayne The Rock Johnson are deserved to
give thumbs up. Get ready to resist the clamor at the ending, yes, because the music is
really evocative!

Chemistry created between Aulii and The Rock can not be doubted. Both are very
compact and entertaining. Unfortunately, Maui is highly highlighted in the trailer. It turns
out the portion of its role not so much; sounded just as a figure only by product. So is the
frontman of The Pussycat Dolls, Nicole Scherzinger is promoted as the role of the
mother, is not at all significant.

Instead, Moana goes on to become Disney princess that is inspiring. Unlike

typical daughters of other orphans, live hard, or want to run away from his home, Moana
has parents and hometown which she loved. Although often being confused and many
times has almost given up, travels to Maui, makes her more mature and experienced.
After all, the desire to change and move forward comes from ourselves.

Despite its shortcomings, Moana remains a mandatory watch the Disney movie
of the year, especially for children and Disney fans. Do not miss it, go ahead take your
family to watch Moana.
