Narrative 1:

The first assignment I would like to reflect on is the II.1 lesson plan about Peter and the

Wolf. This lesson challenged me for a number of reasons. The one that took the proverbial cake,

was the Madeline Hunter lesson plan format. In the other lessons that I have on this portfolio, I

used a D. Larson style format. It is clear, concise, and all around amazing. Using this new, and

frankly scary, lesson format gave me a lot of struggles. In regards to how this demonstrates one

of my best works, it utilizes a new format, but it flows well, the plan has the students drawing

and using their artistic skills to gain an understanding of the material, and it has accommodations

for students with potential special needs.

The second assignment that I will reflect on is my theory composition project in I.1. The

learning goal for this one is to be able to show that I understand the basic structural elements of

music and I can apply that knowledge. This composition project in my portfolio does just that. I

was given a poem to form into my own original composition while still following a proper

chordal progression. I learned so music from this assignment. Not only was this the first time I

utilized notation software, it was my first opportunity to create something that was truly my own.

It was a huge moment in my educational career.

The third and final assignment I will reflect on is my music history paper in I.2. This

assignment was one the first writing assignments were I was truly intrigued by the subject

matter. Getting to know and understand how the advancement of an instrument could greatly

affect the music that was being composed was amazing. Not only was it fun to work on, it

allowed me to accomplish the learning goal for this section by analyzing not only the music, but

the instruments as well.
