Experiment Title:
The Digital Multimeter
Purpose:
To become familiar with a digital multimeter (DMM) and how it works. At the
same time to become familiar with resistors and to learn how to use a power supply.
Apparatus:
Digital Multimeter (DMM), Power Supply, Resistors, Connecting Wires
Theory:
the DMM is an instrument. This can be used to measure DC Voltages and
currents, AC Voltages and currents and resistance values
through two leads and choosing the correct function.
And we can use the Ohm's Law.
R=V/I
Procedure:
1. Prepare the multimeter to measure resistance and take the reading of the DMM.
2. To measure the voltages just shift the function switch measure voltage using the
max range. Put the leads of the DMM across the electrical element under test. Take
measures.
3. To measure an electrical current there are two options to connect:
a. in the low Amperes (mA) port.
b. in high Amperes (A) port.
We begin with the high current connection (A) to protect the DMM unless a low
current indicated. In such a case we must change the connection to the (mA) port.
4. To measure the current. It is necessary to disconnect the circuit before you insert
the DMM into the circuit in series with the DUT. Also it's necessary to set the
function switch to measure current (DCA or ACA) Take your measures.
