Creating a Reverse Lookup Zone

Lab/Activity Summary:

This activity was a rundown of how to create a reverse lookup zone.

Lab/Activity Details:

Open up DNS manager located in the administrative tools. Right-click on


Reverse Lookup Zones and create a New zone. Click next and selected
Primary zone, and make sure that the box that say Store the zone in
active directory (available only if DNS server is a writeable domain
controller) and click next. Select the one that say To all DNS servers in
this domain: lncorp.com and click next. The other option is To all DNS
servers in this forest and To all domain controllers in this domain. Click
on IPv4 Reverse Lookup Zone because most networks still use IPv4 and
click next. For the network ID type in 192.168.207.x and click next.
Select Allow only secure dynamic updates and click next. The other
option that is available are allow both nonsecure and secure dynamic
updates and do not allow dynamic updates, the second one because the
updates can be accepted from untrusted sources. Review the input
information before click finish to apply.

Manually Creating DNS Host Address A Resource Records

Lab/Activity Summary:

This activity was a rundown of how to create a host address a resource


record.

Lab/Activity Details:

In the forward lookup zone in the tree, double click the domain name
lncorp.com. Click on the action menu, and the options that was listed in
the menu are reload, New Host (A or AAAA), New alias (CNAME), New
Mail Exchange (MX), New Domain, New Delegation and Other New
Records. Click on New Host (A or AAAA), insert the correct host name
and IP address. Check the box that say Allow any authenticated user to
update DNS records with the same owner name and click add host.

Verifying the DNS Dynamic Update Configuration

Lab/Activity Summary:

This activity was a rundown of how to verify that DNS is configured to be


dynamically updated using the DNS dynamic update protocol.

Lab/Activity Details:

In the DNS tool, Right click on the domain lncorp.com and click
properties. In the General tab, Dynamic updates option are none,
nonsecure and secure and secure only are listed.

Checking the DNS Server and Client Services

Lab/Activity Summary:

This activity is rundown of how to verify that the DNS Server and Client
services are started.

Lab/Activity Details:

Go to Server Manager, click on the plus sign next to configuration in the


tree. Click on Services and standard tab on the bottom the view the
services. Find DNS Client and DNS Server, the status stated that it
started. Double click on DNS Client, the startup type is set to automatic.
To stop or start services just click stop or start under the service status in
the general tab.

Checking Log Entries for DNS

Lab/Activity Summary:

This activity was a rundown of how to check the log information about
possible DNS errors.

Lab/Activity Details:

Open up Server Manager, in the roles summary section, click on the link
that say DNS Server. Look at the event for warning sign, click on the
events and investigate it. The status of the DNS Server service can be
found under system services and additional resources for using and
troubleshooting the DNS Server role can be found under Resources and
Support section.

Installing WINS

Lab/Activity Summary:

This activity was a rundown of how to install WINS.

Lab/Activity Details:

Open up Server Manager, click on add feature in the Feature Summary


section. Add WINS Server and install it. Open WINS management tool
located in the administrative tools. Click on the name of this computer
AD01, and click active registration. Right-click on Replication Partners to
open the menu options. To create a replication partner, click on new
replication partner. To replicate the WINS database click on replicate now
to replicates the contents to a replication partner. Click on Server Status
under WINS, the status show that the Server is responding. Go back to
the Server Manager window, in configuration click Services. Double-click
on WINS and make sure that the Startup type is automatic and check to
see if it is responding.

Installing DHCP

Lab/Activity Summary:

This activity was to learn how to install DHCP.

Lab/Activity Details:

In Server Manager Window, click on add roles in the roles summary


section and install DHCP Server. Review the information that
automatically filled in to make sure that it is correct before click next. In
IPv4 WINS setting section clock WINS is required for applications on this
network and filled in the IP address of the WINS server (192.168.207.8)
and click next. Click next on the DHCP Scopes window, and select Enable
DHCPv6 stateless mode for this server on the DHCPc6 Stateless Mode
window. On the IPv6 DNS Settings, the IPv6 address is
fe08::8833:2ea5:8272:8b08%10 and click next. Click on Use current
credentials of the current user (LNCORP\Administrator) and click next,
review the configuration and click install.

Configuring DHCP Scopes

Lab/Activity Summary:

This activity was to learn how to configure a DHCP scope.

Lab/Activity Details:

Open DHCP in the administrative tool. Click on ad01.lncorp.com server


under DHCP; IPv4 and IPv6 will show up. Click on IPv4, right-click IPv4
and click new scope. On the scope name window, enter AsministrationLN
in the name and enter admin area subnet for the description and click
next. Enter the Start IP address 192.168.207.1 and end IP address
192.168.207.99. When the box was click it will automatically enter the
length and subnet mask. Click next, enter an address 192.168.207.70 in
the start IP address and click add. When you click add it will be added to
exclude address range and the ending address does not need to be enter.
Click next, the default lease time is 8 days. This default would be
appropriate when the average time the computer is connected to the
same physical network is average. Change the default lease time to 5
days and click next. Leave it as Yes, I want to configure these options
now and click next. On the Router (default Gateway) window enter the
default gateway address 192.168.207.1, click add then next. For the
Parent domain name lncorp.com, enter AD01 for the server name, click
resolve and the IP address will be automatically filled in. Click add and
next to continue. To enter more than one DNS server just enter a new
server name and click resolve or manually input an IP address and click
add. Now enter the WINS servers IP address by enter AD01 for the
server name click add and next. Select what say Yes, I want to activate
this scope now and click next than finish to creating the scope. In the
right pane of the DHCP window, the new scope was added to it. Right
click on the server ad01.lncorp.com and make sure that it is authorize if
not do so.

Configuring Automatic DNS Registration

This activity was a rundown of how to verify that the DHCP server you
have configured is set up to automatically register with a DNS server the
IP addresses that it leases and what it is configured for the types of
clients on your network.

Lab/Activity Details:

Open up DHCP tool, double-click on IPv4. Go to IPv4 properties page,


and go to the DNS tab. Check the box that say Enable DNS dynamic
updates according to the setting below if has not done so. Click on
Dynamically updates DNS A and PTR records for DHCP clients because the
clients uses Window Server 2008 operating systems and click OK.

Installing IIS

This activity was a rundown of how to install IIS.

Lab/Activity Details:

Open Server Manager, Click on add role in the roles summary section. IN
stall Web Server (IIS) and click add required feature when it pop up. In
the Select role services window, the default selection are Common HTTP
deatures, Health and Diagnostics, security, performance, and
management tools. Click next, review the installation selection and click
install.

Creating a Virtual Directory

Lab/Activity Summary:

This activity was a rundown of how to set up a virtual directory.

Lab/Activity Details:

Go to administrative tools and open Internet Information Services (IIS)


Manager. Click on the plus sign next to AD01 (LNCORP\Administrator),
and also click the plus sign next to Sites. Righ-click Default Web Site and
click Add Virtual Directory. In the Alias box, enter WebdocLN and enter
the path to the physical folder C:\Users\Administrator\Web DocumentsLN
and click Ok. Right click WebdocLN and click Edit Permissions. Go to the
Security tab, and it show that only SYSTEM and Administrotor have the
permission to access this folder. To set this folder for sharing, click on
share and add in the people that you want to share it with.

Configuring a Web Site

Lab/Activity Summary:

This activity was to learn basic Web site configuration.

Lab/Activity Details:

Open up IIS manager if have not done so. Click on Default Web Site, and
in the middle pane, double-click default document. Moving iisstart.htm
up to the top of the list by click on it and click the upward arrow on the
action pane. Now go back to Default Web Site, double-click on Directory
Browsing. On the action pane click on enable. Double-click on default
web site and open the properties window. Go to the security tab, click
Users (LNCORP\Users) to view the permissions for Users. In the
configure section in the Actions pane click on Limit number of
connections. Enter 240 for Connection time-out (in seconds) and 500 for
the limit number of connections and click Ok.
