CRASH TEST ENGLISH

Hi, Good Morning, My name is Eduardo and today i go speak a bit about crash test.

Firstly, What is crash test?

The crash test is based on the impact of motor vehicles against non-deformable or deformable
barriers. Its main objective is to assess safety and verify that they meet safety standards when
collisions occur in traffic accidents.

How did it start?

After the first death due to a run-down in 1896 at a speed of around 12 km / h the car
manafactures started to think of a way to make cars safe.

Over time the flow of vehicles increased, the cars improved their performance
gradually, and consequently the number of accident victims too.

The failed tests

Around 1930 the manufacturers realized the necessity to do something more effective to
prevent deaths and sequelae of accidents, thus arising the first crash test.

In the beginning the test was done with corpses, but it did not work, because most of the
bodies were of the elderly peoples , not representing the majority of the victims in
accident having failed analyzes.

They tried uses pigs and mokeys, but the results were failed too.

The Ford Innovation

In the late 1940s, The Ford created the first dummy ever. A dummy to test ejection in the
jets of the American Air Force. The first standardized automotive dummy came out even in
1971 created by it.
The dummy

The dummy design was composed of sensors in the head that simulated the brain, and
the rest of the body had more rigid materials, to imitate muscles and skin reproduction.

Addendum: Modern dummys reproduce people to perfection, with different types and
sizes, having 40 sensors through the body and can reach up to 100,000 reais.

The bodywork

With the tests, it was noted that the bodywork did not deform, but the occupants were
hurled violently against the panel.

The advancement of technology

Thus, there was the advance of the research, which gave rise to the deformable
bodieworks where it absorbed the impacts better, causing a better deceleration in the
occupants of the cabin, resulting in less damage.

Simulations

Everything can be measured in the simulations, there are varied tests and the back
impact can be highlighted to analyze the consenquency in the neck of the
dummies. Another test is when the car collides at 64km / h against a concrete
barrier.

Conclusion

The tests are great, but in practice the accidents are worse because they occur at
speeds above 100 km / h. In this way there are no brakes or deformable body that
saves the occupants. It is very important to continues the research about this, so
that more deaths in transit can be avoided.
