Hello

First graders!

I am so interested in your window green house!
I am amazed at how your seeds have sprouted and are
growing into some strong, handsome plants.

We can use seeds to create some artwork as well.

Here is a project that I am sure you will be so excited to do at
home, with your mom, dad, with your nanny, or another adult.

Please follow the steps carefully.

1. Take a walk around the garden. Look at all the beautiful
flowers. Think about how each little flower started. Look
carefully at the shapes that make up each flower. Do you
see geometric shapes?
(circles/triangles/squares/rectangles)
Do you recognize any organic shapes?
2. Lie on your back, and look up into the sky. Did you know
that the shapes that the clouds form are called
amorphous shapes?
3. Ask your mom if she has different seeds in the cupboard
that she will allow you to use for your project.
4. Here is a list of seeds that your mom may be able to give
you to use: beans, lentils, corn, sesame, peanuts, peas.
5. Ask your mom for an empty tissue or cereal box that you
could use for a background.
6. . Using glue (liquid glue would work the best) and the
seeds, design a flower on the board.
Look at the three examples to give you an idea.
7. Sign your work, and bring it with you to the art class.

I look forward to seeing you, and your work, when we get back
to school.

Mrs. Rhoda
