Assumptions
* Steel Scaffold Tube of 48.3mm Outer diameter with 4mm wall thickness conforming to EN 39 shall be used for all framing members of
Scaffold. The Minimum yield strength of the tube shall be 235 N/mm with a modulus of elasticity of 210,000 Mpa.
The maximum available length of the Scaffold Tube is 6.4m and is available in different shorter lengths as per the job requirements.
A strength increase factor of 1.10 is considered over the minimum yield strength of 235N/mm for tubes, since the value of Minimum
Yield strength of the tube as per attached vendor test report and test conducted by Independent testing company are greater than
430N/mm .e 82% higher (Refer to sheet no. X of the attached Material datasheet and Test results).
* Scaffold Planks shall be LVL Laminated Veneer Lumber, 230mm wide and 38mm thick.
The Safe Bending Capacity of Planks is 1.03 kN.m & EI = 15kNm as per the manufacturer's datasheet determined in accordance with
ANSI A10.8 - 2001 (App C) (Refer to sheet no. X of the attached Material datasheet and Test results).
* All couplers connecting the members of the scaffold shall be conforming to EN 74.
* The scaffolding shall be checked for wind loading, in accordance with ASCE 7-05 and the Saudi Aramco Scaffold Safety Handbook.
* The 3-second gust Basic Wind Speed as specified in SAES -A-112 for site location for 10 year mean recurrence interval per ASCE 7-05
(Table C6-3) shall be considered.
* An Importance factor of 1.0 and Directionality factor of 0.95 shall be used.
* All Tributary wind areas shall be increased an additional 5% to allow for fittings & overlaps.
* The wind load analysis shall be done for the worst case directions with the largest projected area. The wind forces without any
shielding shall be applied to the entire Scaffold Structure including the Toeboards, Handrails, Bracings, Ladder accesses etc.
* The worst case have been considered of wind direction during wind load analysis.

Tributary area = 1.22 m x 1.45 m x = 1.77 m

Scaffold Design Calculations
Max. Load in the Hanger Tube (Max. Reaction) = 4.10 kN Refer to page no. 9,
P(DL+LL) Shear & Bending Moment Diagram.
Permissible Tensile Load in tube = Pt = 0.6 x 235 x 556.76 = 78503.50 N = 78.50 -------- Result II
Therefore, SWL in Slip of a Right Angle Coupler Class B = 9.4 kN x 0.4 = 3.76 kN
No. of Couplers available = 2
SWL of the connection in slip = 3.76 kN x 2 = 7.52 kN
with Safety factor of 4.0
Load (P) acting on the Short Tubes = End reaction from the Horizontal Tubes = 16.40 kN
Load Combination (4DL + 4LL), see above.
The Horizontal Tube is Placed at a distance of 80mm from the Steel Beam
Maximum Capacity of a scaffold tube in Bending = 2.03 kNm (From Result I, Page # 4)
4.06 kNm (Double Tubes provided, on top & bottom flanges)
Design Check: Short Tube Connection to Steel Beam Using Girder Coupler
The short Tubes are connected to the Steel Beam Using a pair of Girder Couplers
Max. Load in each Short Tube due to a Hanger Tube = 16.40 kN (Max. Load P from Single Hanger Tube)
Total no. of Hanger Tubes Provided = 2
Hence Max. load acting at the Girder Coupler Connection = 16.40 kN x 2 = 32.80 kN
Ultimate Caapacity of a Pair of Girder Couplers as per the attached test results = 31.50 kN x 2 pairs = 63.00 kN

All the Bracing shall be designed purely for Wind Load only.
Assumption:
1) The scaffold is completely unsheeted.The wind pressure on the scaffold shall be in accordance with ASCE 7-05
2) The worst case for wind analysis is assumed to be when the direction of wind incident normal to the maximum projected area of the
scaffold with no wind shielding considered.
3) It is assumed that no gravity loads are transmitted through the bracing hence we shall design Bracing purely for Wind Loads only
4) Tributary Area shall be increased by 5% for fittings & overlaps etc.
Calculations:-
V= Basic Wind Speed = 165 kph = 45.83 m/s (Jizan Area)
As per the revised recommendations of CSM II-2 Scaffolding, the wind speed for 10 years MRI as per ASCE 7-05 can be used.
Conversion factor for 10 years MRI as per ASCE 7 -05 (Table C6-3) = 0.84
Hence, Wind Velocity = 45.83 m/s x 0.84 = 38.50 m/s
wind velocity pressure = qz = 0.613 Kz Kzt Kd V I (N/m) as per 6.5.10 page 27, ASCE 7-05
where Kzt = Topographic Factor = 1.00 As per Sect 6.5.7.2 for structures with no Topographic Effect
Kd = Directionability Factor = 0.95 As per Table 6-4 page 80 ASCE 7-05
I = Importance Factor = 1.00 As per ASCE 7-05, Page 77, Table 6-1 (Category II)
V = Wind Velocity in m/s = 38.50 m/s
Kz = Velocity pressure exposure co-efficient = as per values indicated in Table 6-3,For exposure Class C Case 2.
F(wind load) = Wind Force at normal to the length of the Underhung scaffold

Wind Force on Tubes Wind Force on Toe Boards
F(wind load) = Wind Force at normal to the length of the Slung scaffold
= (( 1.044 x 0.85 x 1.2 x 13.40 )+( 1.044 x 0.85 x 2.0 x 2.76 )) x 1.05
No. of Plan Bracing available (nearby steel structure) in the considered length of the scaffold = 4 nos.
5.03 kN Max Axial load in each Transverse Brace = 5.03 kN 4 Sin 42O
