ROLE OF CHAMBER AND INDUSTRY IN ECONOMIC AND SOCAIL

DEVELOPMENT
The idea of a community level chamber of commerce dates back 1500,s where the first formal group was founded
in france. Chamber of commerce is a form of business network e.g. local organization of business whose goal is to
further the interest of business. The chamber of commerce is an organization of citizens who are investing their
time and money in community development program. Since its inception in 1950 in Pakistan FPCCI has advocated
and voiced the collective opinion, concern and aspiration of the private sector and offered helpful advice and solid
assistance to the government in its efforts to promote exports, encourage foreign investment and stimulate
economic activity in the country. The FPCCI has its fingers on the pulse of the economy and serves as a bridge
between the private sector and the Government.

The FPCCI is playing important role in presenting problems of trade, industry and environment and safeguard
interest of private sector through constant dialogue with the government.

FPCCI under its umbrella, 34 chambers of commerceand industry, 80 all Pakistan associations, representing
industry, trade and service sectors. The activities of FPCCI are conducted through following committees councils:

Managing Committee
Business Council
Trade and Industry Committees
Economic Cooperation Committees
Standing Committees
Pakistan Shipper Council
Pakistan National Committees on CACCL, ECO,SAARC

There are two primary function of Federation of Chamber of Commerce

It act as spokesman for the business and professional community also translate group thinking into action
It renders specific product that can most beneficial by community to its members

OBJECTIVES
Chamber of Commerce seeks to achieve the following objective

To protect the interest of business community as a whole.


To develop a sense of cooperation among their members.
To collect and supply useful information to the member.
to advice the Government on matter relating to trade and industry.
T consult the central and state Government relating to trade and industry.
To assist the Government in making budget by expressing views on different sectors of the
country, s economy.
To bring to the notice of the government the impact of various law and regulations on
business.
To make the member aware of changes in the field of technology, marketing, financing,
human resources.
To talk the foreign businessmen and explore the area where Pakistani businessmen can
cooperate and participate.
To draw plans and projects for encouraging the growth of trade and commerce in the
country.
To carry on research for the benefit of members.
To protect the environment from industrial pollution.
To organize educational and training facilities for the members.
To act as arbitrators in order to solve disputes among the members.
