Outstanding Flexibility - A thin section of ordinary cement is hard and brittle and crumbles easily,
while cement modified with Boysen Plexibond possesses superior flexibility, thus eliminating
cement plastering defects. The excellent adhesive and tensile strength balance of
Boysen Plexibond maintains the integrity of the mortar.
Excellent Water Resistance - When mixed with cement, Boysen Plexibond forms a seamless,
non-porous impenetrable thick layer that disperses any liquid upon contact, preventing any water
seepage when applied on both vertical and horizontal surfaces.
Resistant to Weathering - Boysen Plexibond has excellent sunlight exposure resistance,
prolonging the service life of light building materials such as marine plywood and cement asbestos
boards.
Solvent-free - Boysen Plexibond uses water for film cure, and thus has low odor, low
flammability or other hazards inherent for solvent based systems.
Retards Fire Spread - Boysen Plexibond is non-flammable, and retards flame spread when used
as a cementitious coating for light building materials such as plywood.
Excellent Corrosion Resistance - Boysen Plexibond offers good corrosion resistance on metal
surfaces such as G.I. sheets when applied at a minimum thickness of twenty (20) mils.
Beautifies - Boysen Plexibond can be brushed on as a plaster finish or applied by textured roller
or mortar gun, giving an attractive orange peel textured cementitious coating. The thin
cementitious coating allows the preservation of architectural detail on wood, masonry, and metal
surfaces.
SURFACE PREPARATION:
Boysen Plexibond should be applied on bare concrete, wood, or metal not previously painted.
Existing paint should be totally scraped off. New masonry should be allowed to cure at least
fourteen (14) to twenty-eight (28) days. Surface should be clean, free from oil, grease, dirt, any
loose grit or mortar. Wet masonry surfaces first with water before applying Boysen Plexibond
mix to avoid abrupt drying and cracking of the applied modified cement, especially under hot and
sunny conditions.
APPLICATION:
Mix 6.5 to 7.5 kilograms of cement to four (4) liters of Boysen Plexibond. Add cement to
Boysen Plexibond slowly while stirring to prevent lumping. Pass mixture through a fine strainer
to sift out lumpy materials. Ensure intimate mixing, stirring as often as possible to avoid settling.
Keep mixture proportion constant for a uniform texture. Mix only enough material to prevent
waste. Workability of Boysen Plexibond mixture is thirty (30) minutes, while pot life is two (2)
hours.
Vertical Surfaces:
For vertical surfaces such as firewalls, apply two (2) coats of Plexibond mixture by textured
roller (for orange peel texture finish) or three coats by brush (for plain finish) while maintaining
coverage rate at five (5) to six (6) square meters per gallon. Orange peel textured finish can also be
achieved by applying on coat by brush and a second by mortar gun. Recoating interval is one (1) to
two (2) hours.
Horizontal Surfaces:
For horizontal surfaces such as roof decks, parapets, canopies and ledges, apply five (5) coats by
brush or three (3) coats by textured roller. Reinforce joints, corners and active cracks susceptible
to cracking or movement with a strip of fiberglass matting. Put on the matting immediately after
the second coat, while the mixture is still wet. The matting should adhere to the mixture. Make sure
the Plexibond coating and the matting is completely dry before applying succeeding coats. The
matting should be completely covered by the mixture. Let dry for one day, then apply a bond coat
by brushing Boysen Plexibond straight from the can prior to laying out mortar topping.
NOTE:
1. The effectiveness of Boysen Plexibond as waterproofing is limited to water coming from
positive side (water ingress above the coated part of the substrate) and not from the negative side
(water coming from the back of the coating applied on the substrate).
2. The cementitious coating will be able to cover hairline cracks but will not bridge gaps and active
structural cracks. Immediate repairs using suitable sealants should be done.
Painting:
For maximum durability, paint application is recommended. Allow Boysen Plexibond to dry at
least one (1) day before paint application. Suggested painting systems are:
