KATIE ADULT DAY CENTER POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

SUBJECT: Staff Orientation and Training

POLICY: Staff are well oriented and trained to meet the needs of participants
and requirements of licensure.
PROCEDURE:
1. Staff orientation to center. Each center employee will receive 20 hours of orientation to the
center within the employees first 40 hours of employment at the center. At least four hours of
supervised orientation must be provided before employees work directly with center
participants. The orientation includes training related to the kinds of functional impairments of
current participants, the protection and abuse reporting requirements (9555.8000 to
9555.8500), and the safety requirements and procedures (9555.9720). New employees will also
be orientated to Katie ADC policies, procedures, facility, and needs of the participant by
spending one Center day (6 hours) with the facility Director, and/or a designated mentor. Three
additional days (18 hours) will be spent training on the job with an experienced employee (Two
days shadowing the experienced employee, and one day being shadowed by the
experienced employee.

2. In-service training. Eight hours of in-service training are provided annually. In-service training
must be in areas related to care of center participants, including provision of medication
assistance and review of:
a. Vulnerable Adult Law and Abuse Prevention Plans
b. Adult Day Center Licensure Elements (9555.9600 to 9555.9730)
c. And Minnesota Statutes, section 626.557, REPORTING OF MALTREATMENT OF
VULNERABLE ADULTS
d. This training will be completed via on-line training, tri-boards, or included in staff
meetings.
