    Children always love the Halloween season. This is when they wear their ghost costumes which are long and jagged. It’s the time to play hide and seek especially at night, and of course, their most favourite activity is going to different houses for their trick or treats. As we all know children are not so aware of possible danger brought by their pumpkins with candles or when they brush over some open flames in the neighbourhood. These cause fire accidents on Halloween season. The National Fire Protection Association’s data show that most of the fire incidents are due to holiday decorations. This infographic provides important details on how you can avoid fire accidents while still enjoying Halloween. 1. Dried cornstalks are very flammable and once it is exposed to fire, it will easily spread in the house. Your flammable decorations should be kept away from the source of flames. Just put it in one place outside your house so that it won’t affect other decorations in case there would be fire. These decorations should also be far from light bulbs, lighted candles, and heaters. 2. Clear all exit areas. Fire incidents are not predictable. During the season, keep it clear and open all the time so that going out the house when the fire occurs would be easier. Don’t be too complacent with your firewall because nothing is so certain with everything. Just be ready all the time so that regrets will be avoided. 3. Find alternative ways to light the candle in your jack-o- lanterns. There is a battery operated candle which could be safer than the ordinary ones. However, if you would choose to use the real candle, make sure that it is monitored and it should be kept away from other Halloween decorations. 4. Choose costumes that are simple and with no long trails. Children love to run inside and outside the house. If you got real candles lighted on the lantern and the children brush it off, the fire would ignite. These costumes must be made with fabrics or any materials won’t catch the fire so easily. If possible don’t use costumes that are made with old clothing because it is easily burned. 5. Orient the kids every day about the possibility of a fire accident. It is better when you keep the children aware of the danger. Give them some flashlights for them to play with. For naughty children, give them glow in the dark items so you can track their movements even when the lights already out. 6. Keep the yards free from real fire. Some families like to put lighted candles in the sidewalks to emphasize the Halloween. However, this may not be that ideal. Even if you monitor it from time to time, you can’t predict the sway of the wind and it might burn the dry grass and spread through your house. If you really want to design you yards, you can opt for designs that would just imitate the fire or glow in the dark.
