Abraham was a normal man who was called upon by God, during Genesis, to make a
great Covenant for his descendants in order to make a great nation. He goes through many
problems, such as keeping the covenant with God, his wife who was unable to bear children and
had to leave everything behind in order to fulfill Gods covenant. His suffering played a big role
in his journey because if he hadnt had suffered and followed Gods rules, his covenant would
not have existed. Abrahams suffering didnt happen for no reason, if he hadnt have any distress
over his tasks, he would not have been able to prove his faith to God as well.
God comes to Abraham and says to him Go forth from your native land and from your
fathers house to the land that I will show you (71). Abraham needed to leave his home and
traveled miles to fulfill Gods covenant, so it will carry on to his descendents. Abraham gathered
all of his wealth and took his wife and his brothers son, Lot, to Canaan. Abraham isnt sure that
the land is his, so God comes to him and tells him Bring me and three year old heifer, and three
year old she goat, three year old ram, a turtledove and a young bird (72). After Abraham
brought these gifts to God he fell into a deep sleep and when he awoke the land was assigned to
him in the word of God. Abraham took a leap of faith after leaving everything behind in order to
keep the covenant in honor of his ancestors. He did not know it was going to workout for sure by

leaving his home, even though he knew the risks it wasn't a guaranteed success. Without his
After settling in Canaan, Abraham realises that he has no offspring to give his land to and
his wife is unable to have kids. His wife Sarai tells Abraham, Consort through my maid,
perhaps I shall have a son through her (73). Abraham reluctantly heeded Sarais request and had
a child through their maid Hagar. Sarai becomes jealous over Hagars child and banishes the
maid. God notices that Sarai cannot bear any children so he blesses her with a child by the name
of Isaac. Now Abraham could leave the land and covenant to his child and future descendents.
Abraham went under a lot of stress and problems because his wife could not have kids and his
wife banished the maid that he had kids with. His motivation for the covenant helped him push
through all the difficulties he faced in order to prevail for the future of his family.
Abrahams faith is put to the test after god says to him Take your son, your favored one
Isaac, whom you love and go to the land of Moriah and offer him there as a burnt offering on one
of the heights that I will point out to you(75). Now Abraham had to sacrifice his favorite son,
the one he had worked so hard to keep the covenant for. Abraham placed his son down on an
altar and raised his hand to him about to strike, but the angel Gabriel, came down upon them and
told Abraham not to raise his hand against the boy. Abraham Truly does fear God. A big
sacrifice had to be made to appease God and Abraham was willing to risk his favorite child for
God's faith. Since Abraham followed Gods rules Isaac was spared and they would not face the
Abraham underwent a lot of stress with the issues of keeping his promise to god, his wife
not being able to have children and his trek to Canaan. All of these tasks required a sacrifice such
as leaving his home, losing his favorite son, and losing the covenant if he didnt have a son.
