carnivals, where children and adults are playing with other guys, and are colored
with dry powder or water of color, also the festival is full of history and cultural
importance, but the festival celebration is also a time to forgive and forget in
addition to celebrating spring; a time of renewal.

We liked that the band Cold Play publishes a video about the festival of colors, is
very fabulous, wonderful and beautiful for the variety of colors. The song is a hymn
for the weekend by cold play, which symbolizes their culture within the video in the
India, besides The Holi festival symbolizes the victory of good over evil, the arrival

Although its origin is unknown, Holi is a very important holiday in India. Its
celebrated during a full moon in February or March to celebrate the arrival of spring
and the end of winter. On the first day, a bonfire is lit, which represents the triumph
of good over evil. On the second day, people wear light-colored or colorful clothes
and get ready to celebrate with colored dust and dyed water. However, due to the
belief that the change of seasons can cause colds, the colored dusts that are
thrown at people are made with traditional medicinal herbs known as neem,
kumkum, haldi, bilva, among others. Nonetheless, nowadays the scents
components have been substituted by chemicals which may be potentially toxic.
The origin of Holi is attributed to several legends, the most popular being about the
king of demons, Hiranyakashyap.

Hiranyakashyap wanted everybody in his kingdom to worship only him but to his
great disappointment, his son, Prahlad became an ardent devotee of Lord
Naarayana. Hiaranyakashyap commanded his sister, Holika to enter a blazing fire
with Prahlad in her lap. Holika had a boon whereby she could enter fire without any
damage on herself. However, she was not aware that the boon worked only when
she enters the fire alone. As a result, she paid a price for her sinister desires, while
Prahlad was saved by the grace of the god for his extreme devotion. The festival,
therefore, celebrates the victory of good over evil and also the triumph of devotion.
(SCFI).
During the holiday nor social, nor economic, nor political divisions exist. This is
made evident by the presents; which people tend to give each other on the night of
the holiday, as well as sweets and greetings, creating an environment of
brotherhood which eliminates any feeling of hardship among the people. As was
mentioned earlier, one of the rituals practiced on the first night is the lighting of
bonfires, which is done in the main gathering points. These represent the triumph
of good over evil and people dance around them. On the following day, the play
with the colors and dye each other to the rhythm of dhholak. To summarize, this
holiday strengthens the customs and religious beliefs of the Hindus since it marks
the beginning of the harvest, which is in itself a cause for joy. Likewise, all the
legends associated with the festival are celebrated as well. Also, this holiday
creates a space for those of us who dont belong to this culture in which we can
enjoy this colorful festival together.
