rock,aswellasmixtureofsoftsoilsandhardrockwithinthe
sametunnellingface(socalledmixedsoilcondition).
Inmanystationconstructionandtunnellingworksassociatedwith
MRTandHSRconstruction,someofthesesoil/rockprofiles
encounteredwillneedsomeformofimprovementortreatment
for:
(a)constructionsafety,
(b)limitinggroundmovement,
(c)limitingwaterseepage,
(d)limitinggroundlost,
(e)betterconstructionrateandbetterproductivity.

Theprinciple ofvarioustraditionalgroundimprovement
techniquesareavailableforvarioustypeofsoilprofilesto
satisfyvariousdesigncriterion.
Yet,innovativeapplicationand/orcareful
modification areneededtoimplementatsiteforthe
projecttobesuccessful.

Thispaperswilldiscusssomeoftheseimprovement
techniquesandtheirinnovativeimplementationwith
referencetoSingaporecontact.Specialreferencewillbe
