The un-reality of ghosts

Youve seen it in movies, youve heard it in stories, and he (or she?) might be standing
next to you now. But of course, it depends on your belief right?
For the most part, or perhaps in popular belief, ghosts, if not spiritual manifestations of
the dead, are just beings imagined by our ever-inconveniently-creative minds. And perhaps, you
could ask a science enthusiast about the existence of ghosts and most likely, they would
disprove, since science hasnt found any scientific evidence or proof that ghosts do exist. So
that means ghosts do actually not exist, right?
Not exactly.
First off, even with our high level of technology, we havent found any proof of ghosts.
Well, as with all of you folks out there who watched Ghostbusters or other ghost-hunting-
related stuff that involves a bit of science (they dont), one belief is that since ghosts are not
made up of matter, they are made of energy and their presence is detected by movie
electromagnetic-o-meters.
Well, in the real world, we have an actual electromagnetic-o-meter, the Large Hadron
Collider, a really large (about 3 cities big) underground particle accelerator used by scientists to
observe behavior of elementary particles, including energies both conceivable and
inconceivable and unfortunately, it hasnt even stumbled on even one spooky energy.
Plus, according to the Second Law of Thermodynamics: energy is always lost to heat
and without any matter trapping that energy in, ghosts would just immediately dissipate.
But ultimately, the absence of any proof of the existence of ghosts is not an automatic
definition of ghosts as non-existent. Yes, not finding any evidence about something doesnt
prove that it exists, but at the same time, it would also not prove that it doesnt exist.
And the problem with Science and beliefs, ghosts, and all is these two endeavors are in a
quite different dimension, that for example, Science is only a body of information of the
physical world, and while belief in ghosts are based in the real world, they are what we call
supernatural, as the word implies, not natural and in a broader sense, not one or not entirely
one of the physical world. That means that until we can indeed find some scientific proof (or
disproof), science cannot prove or disprove the existence of ghosts.
And so, are ghosts real? Probably not. Probably yes. But most probably indeed, their
reality depends on how you make your reality as it is and just like any other superstition, its
all up to you if you want to believe that ghosts are or arent real.
