Matt OGrady, Dick Allen Earn Return Trips to PBA Regional Challenge
Matt OGrady of Matawan, N.J., representing the PBA
East Region, and Dick Allen of Columbia, S.C., represent-
ing the South Region, have earned return trips to the PBA
Regional Challenge in Reno where OGrady is the defend-
ing champion and Allen was runner-up in 2016.
The PBA Regional and PBA50 Tour Challenge events
will kick off the GEICO PBA World Series of Bowling IX,
presented by Eldorado Reno Properties, at the National
Bowling Stadium, on Tuesday, Nov. 7. WSOB IX kicks off
the Go Bowling! PBA Tour series for 2017-18.
In 2016, Allen and OGrady emerged from the eight-
game head-to-head match play preliminary round as the
one-two qualifiers for the title match which was live
streamed on Xtra Frame. OGrady won the showdown
match, 225-217.
OGrady earned his return trip to Reno as the 2017 East
Region points race with 126,853 points, easily beating run-
ner-up Alex Cavagnaro of Massapequa, N.Y., who had
78,858 points. Likewise, Allen repeated as South Region
champ with 140,915 points, out-distancing Cristian Azcona
of Puerto Rico (112,210).
The other regional qualifiers OGrady and Allen will face
this year include:

Northwest Region Tang also won the Northwest
points title (199,194) over Cameron Weier of Tacoma,
Wash. (191,577), but Tang will represent the region where
he lives, meaning Weier gets the Northwest Region berth in
Reno.
The PBA50 Tour Challenge also will be held on Nov. 7
in Reno, featuring the top eight players in 2017 competi-
tion points: PBA50 Player of the Year Brian LeClair, Norm
Duke, Parker Bohn III, Bob Learn Jr., Walter Ray Williams
Jr., PBA50 Rookie of the Year Michael Haugen Jr., Amleto
Monacelli and Ron Mohr.

could've claimed it outright with a
first-round win over her former col-
legiate teammate and PWBA Tour
roommate, Verity Crawley of
England, the other rookie-of-the-
year contender.
Crawley won the match against
Pajak but fell to Latvia's Diana
Zavjalova, another former Webber
Warrior, in the second round, solid-
ifying the award for Pajak - a bitter-
sweet win over one of her best
friends. Crawley could've claimed
the honor by making the champi-
onship round at the Tour
Championship.
Pajak's season included two TV
appearances and her first PWBA
title, a win at the Greater Detroit
Open, an event she nearly decided
to skip to regroup after struggling
the previous few weeks.
She rolled three perfect games
during the 2017 season, including
two at the U.S. Women's Open,
where she was the top seed for the
stepladder finals. She fell to
Johnson in the title match, 188-176.
"Being the rookie of the year was
my goal when I joined the Tour, and
I knew one of the biggest con-
tenders for the trophy was going to
be Verity," said Pajak, who finished
10th on the PWBA points list this
season. "I started the season very
slowly, and I was very frustrated. I
think I learned quickly, though, and
that's why the end of the season was
much better. I feel very accom-
plished because I never gave up."
The 2017 PWBA Tour schedule
included 14 events, 13 of which
counted toward the season statis-
tics. Competitors saw a variety of
lane conditions that tested their ver-
satility, and 13 of the winners were
determined on CBS Sports
Network.
The schedule kicked off in Rohnert
Park, California, in April and con-
cluded on a four-lane setup specially
installed by QubicaAMF inside the
Old Dominion Building, part of the
expansive complex at Richmond
Raceway in Richmond, Virginia.

tition leading up to the TV finals
were broadcast on Xtra Frame, the
exclusive online bowling channel
for the Professional Bowlers

Returns to Reno November 7-19

RENO, Nev. For the third consecutive year, Reno and the National
Bowling Stadium will host the worlds premier international bowling
showcase when the ninth annual edition of GEICOS Professional
Bowlers Association World Series of Bowling begins a 13-day run on
Tuesday, Nov. 7 and concluding with the PBA World Championship on
Sunday, Nov. 19.
WSOB IX, presented by Eldorado Resorts Reno properties, Eldorado Resort
Casino, Silver Legacy Resort Casino and Circus Circus Reno in cooperation
with Reno Tahoe USA, is expected to attract a capacity field of 185 PBA mem-
bers from more than 20 countries to compete for shares of an estimated
$700,000 in prize money and five PBA Tour titles in nationally-televised ESPN
finals.
In keeping with PBA World Series tradition, the multi-event program will
again present players with the worlds most prestigious test of bowling skills
involving a variety of lane condition challenges and competition formats. The
PBA members-only event, with an all-inclusive entry fee of $1,000 covering all
five PBA Tour events, will include the PBA Cheetah, Chameleon, Scorpion and
Shark Championships plus the PBA World Championship, the final major
championship of the 2017 season.
The World Series, which always plays a significant role in PBA Player and
Rookie of the Year competitions, will again feature the PBAs most comprehen-
sive test of versatility, using the composite 60-game qualifying totals from the
four animal pattern events to determine the five players who will compete for
the $60,000 first prize in the PBA World Championship finals. In 2016, EJ
Tacketts PBA World Championship victory propelled him to 2016 PBA Player
of the Year honors.
In addition to the five PBA Tour events, the World Series also will host the
fifth annual PBA Challenge Series, inviting the top players from PBA50 and
PBA Regional programs to participate in the WSOB program. The PBA
Regional points leaders in the East, South, Central, Midwest, Southwest, West,
Northwest and Japan Regions as of the Oct. 15 qualifying deadline will receive
WSOB and PBA Challenge Series invitations. The top eight players based on
PBA50 Tour points will be determined at the conclusion of the PBA50 Tour sea-
son on Aug. 12.
The 2017 World Series will get underway earlier than it did in 2016 to avoid
a conflict with the World Bowling Mens World Championships which is sched-

World Series competition officially begins with Cheetah, Chameleon,
Scorpion and Shark Championship qualifying rounds Nov. 7-12. Qualifying
will involve two-five game on freshly-oiled conditions, one squad with five
players per pair, and one in six entrants cashing in each animal pattern event.
Combined 40-game qualifying totals from those four events also will determine
cashers who will advance to the final 20 games of PBA World Championship
qualifying Nov. 13-14. The top 16 qualifiers in each of the four animal pattern
events will then bowl single-elimination match play rounds Nov. 15-16 to deter-
mine the ESPN finalists in each event.
The 40-game qualifying totals for the four animal pattern championships also
will serve as the basis for selecting the five American and five international play-
ers who will compete in a special USA vs. The World team event at the end of
WSOB IX.
All ESPN finals are scheduled for Nov. 18-19 for delayed telecast on ESPN,
but all shows will be live streamed on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app as they
happen. The ESPN telecast schedule will be announced at a later date.
All players are required to stay at one of the three Eldorado properties:
Eldorado, Silver Legacy or Circus Circus Reno.
All preliminary rounds of WSOB IX will be covered live, exclusively on
PBAs online bowling channel, Xtra Frame, as well as via live scoring on PBAs
official website, pba.com, and all outlets included as part of the PBA Network.

Thailands Yannaphon Larpapharat, winner of the recent
PBA International-WBT Thailand, and Swedens Jesper
Svensson are tied for the World Bowling Tour mens
points lead while Latvias Diana Zavjalova tops the
womens points standing heading into the GEICO PBA
World Series of Bowling IX, presented by Eldorado Reno
Properties, which will host the final qualifying event for
the 2017 WBT Mens and Womens Finals presented by
the PBA.
Finishing positions in the PBA World Championship
standings, a double points event on the WBT schedule,
will likely decide the top three qualifiers for the WBT
Mens and Womens Finals, which will be conducted on
Sunday, Nov. 19, for ESPN telecast on Sunday, Jan. 7, at 1
p.m. EDT. The WBT finals will be live streamed on
ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app as they happen on Nov.
19.
Heading into WSOB IX, Larpapharat and Svensson are
tied for the mens points lead with 90 points each while
Englands Stuart Williams is third with 89 points.
Rounding out the mens top 10 are Marshall Kent of
Yakima, Wash., and Jason Belmonte of Australia with 85

As a major on the 2017 WBT schedule, players will be
awarded double the normal points based upon how they
finish relative to their respective fields. For example, the
top 10 men and top 10 women will earn 100, 80, 70, 60,
50, 48, 46, 44, 42 and 40 points, respectively, while other
finishers also will earn double points of declining value.
The weighted points based on finishing positions in the
PBA World Championship which includes qualifying
rounds of PBAs Chameleon, Shark, Cheetah and Scorpion
animal patterns will undoubtedly impact both points
races, but most significantly the womens event where
Zavjalova and McEwan are entered in the World Series
along with three-time PWBA Player of the Year Liz
Johnson of Deerfield, Ill., and Daria Pajak of Poland, who
both will have a strong chance to break into the top three.
