THE MODULE DEVELOPMENT AS TEACHING MATERIAL IN SUPPORTING

WRITING LEARNING ACTIVITY

Introduction

A. Background of the study


Education is one of the human culture applications which is really dynamic.
Education is an aware effort in building the qualified human. According to UU no.20
tahun 2003 pasal 1 ayat 1, states that education is aware and planned report in order to
create teaching learning environment and the learning process activity so that the
students could develop their potential power actively in getting religious power, self-
control, personality, intelligent, good attitude, and also the skills which are needed by
themselves, society, and country. The changes and educational development must be
in accordance with the changes of human culture. This development involved in
improving educational quality of all levels starting with elementary school until
university. In accordance with the global world development towards MEA
(MasyarakatEkonomi Asia), by improving the educational quality, we should improve
students potency. The development of science and technology and also the global
competition, it gives the challenges for educational world without resisting the
academic community creativity for doing the renewal of them. The technology
progress which is still developing also involves to the language participation in using
English. It is because they do not want to have any social gap which happened
between science and technology (IPTEK) with the global condition recently. The
success of English learning could be measured of how far the language could be used
for communication and interaction. Some efforts for increasing educational quality in
Indonesia has been conducted recently. The improvement of lecture and teacher, the
improvement of facilities and the improvement of learning quality. In teaching
learning activity, there are so many aspects which much be attentioned by lecture or
teacher as a qualified educator. According to Hamdani (2011), the teaching material
is a material which is conducted by teacher or lecturer who conduct the teaching
learning activity in class either written material or unwritten material. Teaching
material is one of the important things in conducting the learning process, through the
teaching material the teacher will be easier in teaching and helping the students in
teaching learning activities. Teaching materials could be printed materials like
handout, books, module, paper sheets, brochure, leaflet, wall chart, picture and model.
While non printed teaching material such as audioprogramma, cassette, radio,
compact discs and film. While interactive teaching material such as interactive
compact disc. According to the kinds of teaching materials, one of the teaching
material which is often used is module.
Many modules are divined by some experts. According to Hamdani (2011) module is
the tool of learning material which contain of material, methods, part of the learning
material, learning guidance, excercises and the way how to evaluate which is
structured systematically en interestingly for caring the competency and used
independently. According to that, many positive effect which happened in changing
of students learning results. Modules quite supports the learning process to become
easier and focused. It is used for making the teaching material completely and
perfectly.

B. Research problem
According to the background as I have already explained above, we could formulate
the research problem as follows:
1. How is the condition of English teaching materials in writing text which has been
already used in International Business Management faculty at STIE IEU
Surabaya?
2. How is the process of developing the teaching How is the process of developing
the teaching material as writing skill module in material if clause in
International Business Management faculty at STIE IEU Surabaya?
3. How is the appropriateness of teaching material development result as module in
writing text according to media expert, material expertand respond of students in
International Business Management faculty at STIE IEU Surabaya?
4. How is the responds of the students towards the development teaching material as
module in material of writing text in International Business Management faculty
at STIE IEU Surabaya?

C Research Objective

According to research problem which are already stated before, the goals of this
research is that:
1. For knowing the condition of English material module in writing exposition text
which has been conducted in International Business Management faculty at STIE
IEU Surabaya.

2. For knowing the process of the English material module development in writing
exposition text after material if clause in International Business Management faculty
at STIE IEU Surabaya.

3. For knowing the appropriateness of teaching material development result as module


in writing text according to media expert, material expert and respond of students in
International Business Management faculty at STIE IEU Surabaya.

4. For knowing the responds of the students towards the development teaching
material as module in material of writing text in International Business Management
faculty at STIE IEU Surabaya.
