Your Mouth is Lovely

1. The narrator believes that Tslia is not a good person because of the rumors that she has
heard of her. It is said that Tslia has a red handprint on her face, has cat eyes, and she
says that Tslia is sour as spoiled milk. is silent when meets Tslia for the first time inside
her fathers house, when Tslia talks to her about her birth mother, and at dinner she
pushes her plate off the table and Tslia says No one has taught her anything.. Shes
been living like an animal and now Im the one to raise her. The voices used in the
story are for the narrators mother because the narrator believes that her birth mother
is coming for her. These references relate to the theme of developing connection
between a young girl and her step mother. The narrator finds it difficult to understand
how nice Tslia is in the beginning of the story, but towards the end when Tslia cured her
illness, she starts to realize Tslia isnt as mean as she looks like.

2. She is portrayed as the evil stepmother when she talks about the narrators birth
mother. Its good you dont look like her. a man doesnt like to be reminded of past
misfortune every time he looks at his daughters face. After she told her this, the
narrator started crying and Tslia said Dont be silly in a harsh tone. She undermines it
when she heals the narrator from her illness. To the reader, Tslia can be seen as harsh,
but on the inside, she is caring.

a. Mud could represent how the mother died. When she walked into the river ,she
drowned and since mud makes you stuck, the mother was stuck in the water and
drowned.
b. Swamp could symbolize the death place of the mother. It is revealed that the
narrators birth mother had died when she walked into the river. The mother
could have drowned and her body could be hidden in the river.
c. Wind could represent the voice of the mother. Her body was never found, and
the wind could be the voice of the narrators mother.
The aspects control the overall mood of the story and reflects the inner feelings
of the narrator because she never got to see her mother after she was born.
When she found out she has a step mother, she wasnt too happy about it
because she is not nice. When she said to the narrator that it is good that she
doesnt look like her mother, the narrator started crying because she misses her
mother. In any situation that she is in, she thinks of her mother.
