Assignment Questions for ADCS

Assignment no .1- Module 1& Module 2 - Yield line theory

Q1) What are the guidelines for predicting the yield lines and axes of rotation?
Explain with suitable sketches the possible yield line patterns for different
shapes of slabs.

Q2) A 6m square corner panel of a reinforced concrete floor slab is simply

supported on outer edge on steel beams, and continuous over the interior beams.
The ultimate load is 12.4 kN/m2. Determine the required ultimate moment of
resistance if the slab is to be isotropically reinforced.

Q.3 The triangular slab ABC shown in figure.1 is simply supported about edges
AB and BC and is isotropically reinforced with 10mmdia bars with 200mm
c/c spacing .The average effective depth of the slab is 125 mm. Determine
the live load it can carry if the finishing load is 0.8kN/m2 .Use M-20
Concrete and Fe-415 Steel.

Q.4 Design a rectangular slab 6m by 4m in size and simply supported at the

edges for a service load of 4 kN/m2. Assume co efficient of orthotrophy ( ) as
0.7.M-20 and Fe-415.
Assignment no .2- Module 3&Module 4

Q5) An RC grid roof is to be designed to cover an area of 12mx16m the spacing of rib in
mutually perpendicular directions being 2m c/c live load 1.5kN/m2. Adopt M20 concrete
and Fe 415 grade HYSD bars. Analyse the grid floor by Rankine Grashoff method and
design suitable reinforcement in the rib and slab.

Q6) Design an interior panel of a flat slab of size 5m x 5 m without providing drops and column
heads. Size of column is 500x500 and live load is 4 kN/m2. Take floor finish 1 kN/m2
Use M20 conc and Fe 415 steel.

Q7) Design an Exterior panel of a flat slab floor system for a warehouse 24mx24m divided into
panels of 6m x6m.

LL 5 kN/m2

FF 0.75 kN/m2

Column size 400 mm dia

Height of storey 3 m

Draw reinforcement details.

Assignment no .3- Module 5&Module 6

Q8) Design side walls and hopper bottom of a rectangular bunker of capacity 300 kN to store
coal using M20 concrete and Fe 415 steel.

Unit weight of coal- 8 kN/m3

Angle of repose of coal- 250

Q8) Solve unsolved problem any one from the book attached for elevated water tank.
(Krishna raju)

Assignment no .4- Module 7&Module 8
