Letters Overview

Letters and Sounds is the Government


programme for teaching phonics and high

It is split into 6 phases with the different phases
Sounds being covered through Early Years and Key Stage

Phase 1 Phase 2
By the end of phase 2, the children should know

Phase 6 Phase 5

In Phase 6, the focus is on learning spelling rules In Phase 5, 13 more new sounds are taught
