Model(s): Touareg 2004 Date: Apr. 28, 2004

Supersedes T.B. Group 00 number 0303 dated June 6, 2003, changes include torque
specification correction, Warning light illumination and return box ordering instructions
Condition
A manual Battery Cut-off Switch (BCS) may
be attached to the floor in front of the driver
seat.
Production
On some vehicles during production, a
manual Battery Cut-off Switch (BCS) is used
during the transportation cycle. This unit
renders some systems inoperable and may
cause various battery voltage related
Diagnostic Codes (DTCS) to be stored in
control modules.
Service
During battery voltage check at PDI:
If a manual Battery Cut-off Switch (BCS) unit
is not installed:
Proceed with PDI.

If a manual BCS is installed, It should be


removed within 48 hours prior to delivery to
the customer.
Remove unit as follows:
Turn the BCS in direction of arrow to the ON
position (shown).
Move the drivers seat rearward to its
rearmost position.

Switch the BCS in direction of arrow to OFF


position (shown).
z In this position red Key can be removed.
Detach battery ground (GND) strap (arrow)
from device and lay it on carpet.

Pull carpet back at battery cut-off device


(shown).
Remove nut fixing the device at the stud
(arrow).
Remove cut-off device.
Package and ship the BCS with a copy of the
Repair Order in the supplied prepaid /
pre-addressed box.
Note:

Attach the battery ground (GND) strap to the


stud (arrow) using nut (previously removed).
z Nut Torque = 20Nm " 2Nm.
Install carpeted cover.
Return driver seat to normal position.
Note:
z Steering angle sensor will temporarily lose
calibration (light will illuminate) and must
relearn its position.
z Air suspension will temporarily lose
communication with the steering wheel
angle sensor (light will illuminate).
Drive vehicle forward with wheels in the
straight ahead position for approx. 45 ft.
(13.7 meters).
z Lights will go out.

Perform basic setting in guided fault finding
using VAS 5051.
Proceed with complete PDI.
