Why BYOD?
What is BYOD?
BYOD is Bring Your Own Device.

It is a Wake County initiative to assist students in integrating technology

with learning.
It will enable our students to become future-ready, empowering them
with the 4 Cs of 21st Century learning - collaboration, communication,
creativity, and critical thinking.
WCPSS Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) School Board
Policy 6446:
This policy governs the use of WCPSS electronic information resources and
defines students' proper conduct and responsibilities while using WCPSS
electronic information resources. The entire AUP Policy can be located on
page 17-19 in WCPSS Student Parent Handbook.

BYOD-specific WiFi access will come with the same security walls that are in
place for all school devices.
Kingswood Parent-Student BYOD Contract
First, teachers will send home contracts that fit the Kingswood SWIM
expectations.

It is your responsibility to read and sign each part of the contract with your
child.

This will remain in your childs records for future use.

What type of device can my child bring in?
Internet enabled devices that can connect to the districts wireless BYOD
network.

These devices may include but are not limited to :

iPod Touch
iPad
Tablet Computing Device
Smartphone
Laptop
Netbook
e-Reader (i.e. Kindle Fire)
What if my child cannot bring in a device?
Students who cannot bring outside technology will be able to access and
utilize the schools equipment.

NO students will be left out of classroom instruction.

When will devices be used?
Who determines when I can use my personal mobile device?

Teachers determine when use of mobile devices is appropriate and

allowed within your classroom.
Use of the BYOD network is for instructional and school related purposes
only. Students may not use any device or service for non-educational
purposes during school hours, unless granted permission by a school
administrator or teacher.

2. When to have it face down

Storage Systems
What are parent responsibilities?
Carefully read and review the BYOD Student Parent Agreement. Both
parent and student must agree to and sign this policy in order to
participate.
Monitor that your device is in proper working order and is fully charged
daily.
To avoid data usage, parents are responsible for showing their child how
to connect to Wake County BYOD WiFi with their devices.
Security and Damages
Responsibility for the security of the device resides with the individual
student.
Kingswood Montessori STEM Magnet Elementary School is not liable for
any device stolen or damaged on campus. If a device is stolen or damage,
it will be handled through the administrative office similar to other
personal artifacts that are impacted in similar situations.
We recommend that skins/decals and other custom touches are used to
physically identify your device from others.
Protective cases for technology are encouraged.
Wake County BYOD Partnerships
