Siddhartha was newly recruited in the company as a part of the team that was responsible for looking after the arrival and seating of the
guests for the annual day function. He had done this a number of times for various programs with his father, and was an expert at this
activity. To his surprise, both the team leader and various team members team were coming up with impractical ideas. Siddhartha tried to
put up his experience, but his voice was just went unheard.
He was feeling very upset and genuinely concerned for the event! Siddhartha explained to his father what was happening and the reason for
his worry. His father explained that just worrying would not work. Siddhartha told that the next meeting was the final one, and he knew he
had no support. Siddharthas father gave him some clues. Siddhartha decided to work on them.
The next day he casually sat with the team members and tried to understand their point of view. Then he made a note of all their suggestions
and wrote down all his suggestions and the reasons why he felt that those suggestions were wrong.
He then made a similar note of the points discussed in earlier meeting. He called his team leader the next day and told that he wanted to
discuss few points with him. Siddhartha requested a hearing as he felt he had some serious points and did not want to embarrass anybody in
the final meeting, but wanted to work as a team.
The leader decided to speak to Siddhartha. Siddhartha was thrilled. He was now ready to have his suggestions thrown out of the window, but
at least he would have the satisfaction of having presented his thoughts!
His meeting with the team leader was a hit. The leader was very impressed with the efforts Siddhartha had taken and for his practical
suggestions. He almost said all of them were accepted!
Siddhartha said he would be very happy if these suggestions were put forth as that of the leader to avoid the arguments. The team leader
did present the ideas and got the full backing for its execution, and did not forget to credit Siddhartha for his efforts to understand the other
point of view, his genuine concern for the project and his skill of persuasion, which he used to convince the team leader!
