CMX7011 Function Image Release Notes

CMX7011 Function Image 7011FI-1.0.4.3 (Beta) 29th April 2016

The following modification has been made to Function Image 7011FI-1.0.4.2 to produce 7011FI-1.0.4.3.

Summary of change:
Bug fixed that caused the audio to occasional mute when number of consecutive errors did not exceed the
value specified in the MUTE field of the DVETH ($1A) register.

CMX7011 Function Image 7011FI-1.0.4.2 (Alpha) 29th May 2015

The following modifications have been made to Function Image 7011FI-1.0.4.1 to produce 7011FI-1.0.4.2.
This function Image is now available as an alpha release as full regression testing not completed.

Summary of changes:
Addition of extra informational bit in FHEADV register
Bit-5 of register $23 (FHEADV) now indicates, if set to one, that a digital voice call includes the late entry
feature. The current Datasheet/User manual shows the value of this bit to be indeterminate and should be
ignored.
FHEADV register $23
Bit 5 : LE
If this bit is set and bit 6 (PKT) is clear, the following data is digital voice with late entry. If this bit is clear when
bit 6 (PKT) is clear, the following data is digital voice with no late entry. If bit 6 (PKT) is set, indicating packet
data, then the state of this bit is indeterminate and should be ignored.

TX to Rx /Rx to Tx transition improvement

Improved transition between the three states of IDLE, Tx and Rx, preventing unnecessary power-saving of
analogue circuitry when moving between Tx and Rx without going through IDLE, using register $11 (CTRL).
To eliminate potential unwanted impulses (clicks) in audio, transition directly between Tx and Rx modes,
without setting the device to Idle mode.

Click removal in Tx mode

Improvements in the audio path of the transmit function now prevent a possible impulse (click) at the start of
the transmission from being vocoded and reproduced on the receiver.

Techniques to mitigate an audio output click on the Idle to Rx mode transition

The Idle to Rx mode transition enables device analogue output circuits and that generates a brief impulse or click in
the CMX7011 Rx audio output signal. External switches are normally used to route that signal to an external speaker
path therefore transitions from Idle to Rx should be made before the external switch connects the speaker path. An
alternative approach is to reduce the amplitude of the CMX7011 audio output impulse by setting the CMX7011
analogue output gain to -14dB before changing mode from Idle to Receive and then increasing that gain to the desired
level shortly thereafter.
