to give it three dimensions. This use of shadowing acts as a
wider representation of embedded themes within the
movie. For example shadows relate to something elusive
and scary, as if there is someone following you (shadowing
over you). The use of deep orange here, creates continuity
within the page because, of consistent use of this colour;
making the poster stronger because it clarifies the main
themes. The font is large in relation to the other text on the
page. This could reflect the power/dominance that the
antagonist has within the movie. This is an effective way of
engaging audiences because they will want to find out

disparate colours. The background is solid black, and

do not know if there is anything hiding in the distance,
which creates fear of the unknown something most
viewers would be able to relate to.
Composition: The composition of this film poster is basic,
and balances each element in relation to other colours,
shapes and images. For example, the main image has
been positioned in the middle third of the page, because
this is the largest and most significant feature. The text

power and strength, because of such a tight grip. We can see

interpreted as an angry or vicious emotion. The way in which
the knifes tip has been highlighted with a light beam,
exaggerates how sharp it is; our eyes are naturally drawn to the
tip of the knife. In a different way, the colour white has ghostly
connotations, which further enhances ideas of the supernatural
as well as threats. The objects withhold a very deep orange/red
tint which in general terms has connotations of danger, anger
and passion. Often this colour could embody feelings of joy and
happiness because of similarities between the colour of the sun.
We however know this is not a suitable meaning within this
poster, because of the way it is overshadowed by greys and
blacks. Anchorage is also evident here in relation to the text
Halloween. For example, we identify this season to be
autumnal, which something we associate with leaves and this
colour. The image of the pumpkin has a very moody and
haunting aesthetic. For example the way in which the eyes have
been carved into a frown enforces the aggression that we
gained from the knife. Similarly the use of a glowing yellow
within the eyes, relates to harmful objects like fire.

white fonts for each text format. This is consistent throughout
the credits, and works well to be clear and easily read by
audiences. The intense contrast between the pitch black
background and the pure white text imposes a juxtaposition
between good and evil; maybe proposing ideas of
protagonist/antagonist as well as Claude Levi-Strauss theory
of binary opposites; engaging the audience because we can
sense tension.
