INTRODUCTION

Attention Getter: Many people believe that not only dogs, but animals in general can be a
mans best friend but what if their best friend is being experimented on? Animal
experimentation is an unethical practice that is not required by law but happens all over
the U.S. It is hard to name an animal that is not tested on for human purposes.

Credibility: My name is DaNajah Handy and I have dedicated my junior and senior year of
high school to researching Animal Experimentation.

Audience Relevance: I feel as though animals deserve their rights to be fulfilled just as any
person would like their rights to be fulfilled
Preview Points: I am here to explain the laws that are meant to protect animals, how
medicine and research will not work on humans and factors that cause these test to give
incorrect answers or no answers at all. Lets begin by discussing the unfulfilled animal
rights and laws.
Transition to Point: Lets begin by discussing the unfulfilled animal rights laws.

BODY
Point 1: In 1966 President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Animal Welfare Act.

Subpoint 1: The Animal Welfare Act is meant to ...regulate the treatment of

animals during research and transport of dealers.
Subpoint 2: The Animal Welfare Act is not well regulated. The United States
Department of Agriculture has 115 inspectors with 7,750 licensed facilities. This
means that one inspector will have to inspect 63 facilities across America.
Subpoint 3: In most cases inspectors will only examine a facilities if its malpractice
has been exposed. The facility will then get a fine of $2,500 to $10,000
Transition : Secondly, I will discuss how medicine research on animals is rarely effective.

Point 2: Testing medicine on animals is an unethical practice that almost never gives good
results.
Subpoint 1: When testing products for medicinal uses 95% of products that will on
animals will not work on humans.
Subpoint 2: It is hard to say how many useful drugs are thrown away. Only about 5
out of 10,000 drugs pass clinical trials.
Subpoint 3: The drug for leukemia and cyclosporine (used to treat autoimmune
disease) was thrown away because of its harmful effect on animals.
Transition : Lastly, animals conditions and the disease itself will have an effect on the test
results.

Point 3:Most human diseases will not show up in animals so the have to be remade.

Subpoint 1: Human diseases have to be artificially remade. Human diseases are so

complex that remaking them will never produce the exact same disease.
Subpoint 2: An example of an experiment that does not work on animals like it
does on humans is the creation of a stroke medicine. Even though it is understood
why a stroke happens, any attempts to create a medicine that will help stop a stroke
on has failed.
Subpoint 3: Most tests do not end with a result at all. They will go through a list of
pain and torture for no results at all

CONCLUSION
Transition to Conclusion: In conclusion, animal experimentation is useless and
unjustified.

Review Main Points: Animals suffer everyday will barely any breakthroughs. 95% of drugs
dont work on humans, human diseases are too complex to remake so that medicine can be
made and the laws for animals are not followed.

Conclusion: Next Steps or Call to Action: When will the suffering stop. Lets get the law to
finally protect our animals.
