Interview Project

Choose a professional in the career field that you have chosen. You are seeking to find
out more about the field itself, job expectations, job requirements and any other practical
wisdom that the interviewee may choose to impart.

Instructions:
Do not interview someone you already know, such as a relative/friend, etc.
Identify and contact a professional in the field who is willing to be interviewed.
Explain that you are a student at the University of Houston and that you are
required to conduct an interview with someone in your ideal career choice in
order to complete a Career Path course. The interview may be in person, by
phone or by email. However, if it is by email, dont just send the questions for the
person to fill out for you. You need a conversation where you ask the questions
and follow up if you would like further elaboration.

Consider, but do not limit yourself to the following questions (ask min. 10 questions):

What is your educational background?

Is your degree related to your job?
Did you know you wanted this job? How did you find yourself there?
What kind of training is required prior to the job? After getting the
job?
Is there a career ladder in the area you are in?
Do you think you will need to further your education in order to
advance?
Is the job what you thought it would be?
Are you happy with your career choice?
Any advice from your past experience?

Submit a summary of your interview from your perspective. (Why did you choose
this person? How did you arrange the interview? What was your expectations?
Did s/he meet your expectations? What was surprising for you about this
interview? Did this interview make any changes on your future career plans?)
Submit the questions that you asked to your interviewee and answers given to
your questions to complete this assignment.
Please check your syllabus and calendar for the due date of this assignment, it is worth 20
points.

Make sure that you attach a document that is in a version of Microsoft Word 2000 or
later. If the attachment is in a form that cannot be opened, your assignment will not be
graded. Also, do NOT paste assignment into the word box provided on the assignment
link on Blackboard. The assignment must be submitted as an attachment.

Format requirements: Double-spaced on standard-sized paper (8.5" x 11") with 1"

margins on all sides. You should use a clear font that is highly readable. APA
recommends using 12 pt. Times New Roman font.
