ISRO Cartosat-2
o India will add a sixth eye in the sky, when ISRO will launch an earth
observation satellite belonging to the crucial Cartosat-2 series in November.
o This will be the third advanced remote sensing satellite in the Cartosat-2
series to be launched in 2017.
o The missions primary objective is to provide high-resolution images of
designated targets from altitude of about 500 kilometers.
Paryatan Parv
o Paryatan Parv of the Ministry of Tourism begins on Oct 5 across the
country.
o The Parv is being inaugurated at the Humayuns Tomb, New Delhi.
o Parv will showcase the cultural diversity of the country, with cultural
performances, crafts bazaar, food court showcasing folk and classical dance
& music, handicrafts & handlooms and cuisine from all regions and States
of the country.
Embryo Transfer Technology
o Department of Animal husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries in co-operation
with 12 States has undertaken a Mass Embryo Transfer programme.
o It has been planned to carry out 440 embryo transfers during October 2-10,
2017 throughout the country.
o Programme is implemented with the objective of conservation and
development of indigenous breeds under Rashtriya Gokul Mission.
Inauguration of Umiya Dham Ashram
o The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, inaugurated Umiya Dham
Ashram at Haridwar, via video conferencing.
o The Ashram would benefit the pilgrims coming to Haridwar.

o PM said the idea of a Yatra existed as an integral part of our culture and will
help in increasing tourism.
HDFC Life launches service bot Neo
o HDFC Life Insurance Company has launched Neo, a servicing bot for
Twitter that uses artificial intelligence for customer service.
o The insurer hopes to deploy the bot in answering policy related queries on
social media.
o The Neo bot will be available 24/7 and has the capability to authenticate
customers and give frequently sought details, like fund value, sum assured
and premium amount.
Bangladesh signs loan deal with India
o Bangladesh on 4 october signed a $4.5-billion loan deal with India for
developing its infrastructure, health and education.
o Bangladesh will use the funds for 17 priority infrastructure projects, which
include electricity, railways, roads, shipping and ports.
o Bangladesh will pay an interest rate of 1% a year. It will have 20 years to pay
back the loans, with a grace period of five years.
Conference of SAARC Speakers
o The 8th Conference of the Association of SAARC Speakers and
Parliamentarians is being held in Colombo.
o The three day conference which started on October 4, 2017 is lead by
Sumitra Mahajan.
o She will speak on the topic Association of the SAARC Speakers and
Parliamentarians, a platform for the Parliamentarians of South Asia to work
together to reach the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development.
No service charge on train till March
o Rail passengers will continue to enjoy service charge exemption on tickets
booked online till March 2018.

o The government had waived service charges after demonetisation in
November last year to encourage digital modes of booking.
o Service charges on booking train tickets online through IRCTC ranges from
Rs 20 to 40 per ticket.
Committee for North Eastern Region
o The Government has constituted a committee for proper management of
the water resources in the North Eastern Region under the Chairmanship
of Vice-Chairman, Niti Aayog.
o This is a sequel to the Modi's visit to Guwahati in August this year to review
the flood situation and relief work in the North Eastern States.
o Committee would facilitate optimising benefits of appropriate water
management.
Strategy to revitalize PPPs in India
o The Asian Development Bank, in its report titled Meeting Asias
Infrastructure Needs, has estimated that $4.36 trillion is needed to fix
Indias infrastructure deficit by 2030.
o That entails more than $300 billion of spending every year for the next 13
years, as compared to recent spend rates of $120 billion per year.
o Report further points on the government needs to revitalize PPPs in India
WEFs India summit
o World Economic Forums 33rd India Economic Summit started on 4th
october, in partnership with industry body CII.
o The theme of the conference is Creating Indian Narratives on Global
Challenges.
o The summit would discuss issues such as climate change, infrastructure and
gender parity, besides demonetisation and the GST.
Samruddhi Corridor

o Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnaviss recent two-nation tour
has given a boost to the Maharashtra Samruddhi Corridor, with South
Korea extending a Rs 35,000-crore loan to the state government.
o Samruddhi Corridor is a ambitious Mumbai-Nagpur Super Communication
Expressway project in Mumbai.
o The project aims to create state-of-the art road connectivity within a period
of three years
CRPF constable wins gold at Wushu Worlds
o Rohtak player Puja Kadian created history by becoming first Indian wushu
player to win a gold medal in the World Championships in Kazan, Russia.
o Kadian, who is a head constable with CRPF, became the world champion
with a win over Evgeniya Stepanova of Russia in the womens 75 kg event.
o She had earlier won 3 silver medals in different weight categories in the
previous World Championships.
Khushwant Singh Literary Festival
o The 6th Khushwant Singh Literary Festival will be held at the Kasauli Club,
Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, from Oct 6 to 8.
o This years theme is 70, marking the seven decades of Indias independence
after Partition from Pakistan.
o It was started in 2012, when writer Khushwant Singh, known for his bold
writing and unorthodox views, was still alive. It is the only one named after
an individual.
