Question 1
In the shown figure, 50 ,
150 , 70 , 110 ,
30 and 90 . If the
dimensions along the shaft axis are given in
mm and the shaft rotates at 1000 rpm,
perform the following calculations:
1. Find the bearing reactions
(magnitude and direction)
2. Calculate the value of the
correction mass and its angular
position if it is to be located at
a radius of 100

Question 2
Inthefigure shown, 0.5 ,
65 , 0.34 ,
45 . The distances and are
given as 100 and 40
respectively and the shaft rotates at
250 rpm.
1. Find the shaking forces.
2. Find also the correction mass
which is to be placed at a radius of 40 s.

Question 3
In the figure shown, 20 , 50 ,
10 , 40
If the dimensions along the shaft axis are given in mm
and the shaft rotates at 1000 rpm.
Find the bearing reactions

Question 4
In the shown figure, 11 , 25 , 17 , 15 , 13
and 19 . The dimensions along the shaft axis are given as;
40 , 50 , 70 , 80 55
If the shaft rotates at 1500 rpm,
perform the following calculations:
1. Find the bearing reactions
2. Calculate the value of the
correction masses at planes
R and L and their angular
positions. Both masses are
to be located at a radius of
30

Question 5
The amplitude and phase angle due to original unbalance in a grinding wheel operating at 1200
rpm are found to be 0.25 and 40 CCW from the phase mark. When a trial weight of

180 is added at 65 CW from the phase mark and at a radial distance of 60 from the
canter of rotation, the amplitude and phase angle are observed to be 0.40 and 150 CCW.
Find the magnitude and angular position of the balancing weight if it is to be located 60
radially from the centre of rotation..

Question 6
The data obtained in a two-plane balancing procedure are given in the table below. Determine
the magnitude and angular position of the balancing weights, assuming that all angles are
measured in the CCW direction from an arbitrary phase mark and all weights are added at the
same radius.
Measured amplitude (mm) Measured phase (deg)
Added masses Bearing A Bearing B Bearing A Bearing B
Original system running 0.13 0.1 100 180
55 gm at 30deg in the left plane 0.17 0.11 120 140
55 gm at 0deg in the right plane 0.15 0.18 90 60
