Lesson Topic: __Changes to Earth (Weather Changes Earth)_______________________

Write a brief summary of your experiences observing this lesson, addressing the
following questions:

In your opinion, what went well? What could be tweaked/improved? (Cite specific
examples. You can note specific things such as differentiation if it occurred, use
of technology, inquiry-based, etc).

Mrs. Shipman-Andrews used inquiry-based learning to present the standard and EQ

about the effects of weather on the Earth. Mrs. Shipman-Andrews used real world
examples such as the flooding of Flint River in 1994 to present to students. Ms.
Shipman-Andres also incorporated a social studies standard the students had previously
learned about the Creek Indians living near and using the Flint River. Mrs. Shipman-
Andrews did a great job explaining the lesson focus by reading the standard then
breaking it down into kid-friendly language. She pointed out that they would focus on
the communication portion of the standard for that lesson. After reviewing previously
learned material about how different types of weather changes the Earth, Mrs.
Shipman-Andrews explained the task which was a checkpoint task. The students were
to illustrate how weather effects the Earth. Then the students will explain their
illustration. Mrs. Shipman-Andrews differentiated by providing a sentence frame: This
illustration shows how
I would add a brief discussion of relevant vocabulary words that would help the
students as they wrote about their illustration thus creating a word wall together as a
class.
How well were the lessons student performance objectives attained?
The students were tasked to illustrate in their science journals one example of
weather changing Earth. As I observed the students working, I believe the lessons
student performance objectives were attained.

Other reflections about the lesson?

I believed this was a great review lesson. I liked the idea of having students illustrate
the standard then explain it. I can use this as an informal assessment with my
students or as a checkpoint to check for understanding thus far in the unit.
