The death penalty dates back to the eighteenth century B.C. Back then there were 25
crimes that would codify for the death penalty. In the eleventh century the only crime
permissible to hanging (as an execution method) was murder. Throughout the years the death
penalty has changed in many different ways. Hanging, boiling, impalement, and crucifixion were
some of the old methods. Some countries use the electric chair whereas the United States use a
The death penalty was brought about people who committed the worst of crimes. People
have received life sentences for around 10,000 years and longer, but why didnt they receive the
death penalty? The death penalty costs more money than to keep that person in jail. In Texas it
costs about 2.3 million dollars to execute one person, which is three times higher than it would
be to imprison someone for forty years. Not all crimes are worth execution, that is why some
people receive some outrageous sentences. Some states such as New Jersey are banning
There are currently thirty- one states that have the death penalty and nineteen without it.
Twenty- six of the thirty- one states that have the death penalty have had at least one execution.
Since 1973 there have been 140 people exonerated from the death penalty. Twenty of those
people were exonerated due to DNA evidence. About 10 people were executed without knowing
hey actually committed the crime. This penalty is a waste of money and resources. If that person
killed multiple people then why should he be put out of his suffering? This death penalty should
not exist because they need to be in prison for the rest of their life serving their time. The death
penalty involves medical doctors, who are sworn to preserve life, in the act of killing. Lethal
injection involves medical doctors who swear to not kill people. Even the guilty have a right to
live.
There are reasons why the death penalty should be legal. The constitution states that the
death penalty is indeed applicable. The death penalty allows the state to exact appropriate
retribution, criminals must face the consequences of their actions. If a person is sentenced to life
in prison after he killed 100 people why shouldn't he be executed? He should be executed
because he doesnt deserve this beautiful gift of life. Those innocent people should live because
The death penalty shouldnt exist. Even though this practice has been around for a long
time, many people find this to be cruel. Even if he is guilty he still deserves to live. On the other
hand they did something terrible, and should suffer the consequences. Life in prison is definitely
a better way to go. They will end up dying in jail and get to live life.
