Course: EDUC 240- Health and Physical Education for Teachers

Brief Description: For this assignment, I and my partner are purpose to organization in physical

class to student having a good quality an opportunity to learning in different the way they are

relate and culture. The most culture become together, we can learn and having a different

knowledge for our neighbor and surrounding us. For example; some students are comfortable

with left had or some are comfortable with right hand. That means we should understanding and

develop our student to be successful in different safely way.

Rationale: To understanding the individual of standard #2, learning differences, there was a high

standard to develop our learning different in our environment. To our physical education is the

most important to understand and keep our life safe. To be a teacher in Physical class we have to

understand and prepare for our student and keep our student in safely place.

Introduction

Knowledge is the most powerful to observation and having an experience. I

observation Carl Wilde Elementary School #79 in 34 street. I observation first grade and second

grade in Dr. Pameal Dorsey class. She was very nice and she having a good relationship with

student in physical education class. I proud of her, because she is old, but she had enough energy

to be with the student. She will retire soon.

Marcus Dalton is current P.E. Teacher at Nora Elementary. He also an Instructional

Assistant at Westland Middle School in the past. He graduated from Ball State University. For

Health Education, Davia Laswell is Kindergarten teacher at Nora Elementary. She is also an

Education Management at Metropolitan School District of Washington Township. The school

has various diverse ethnicity of students; White, Hispanic or Latino, Black or African American,

Native American or American Indian, Asian, and other.

Health Classroom Observation Experiences

With Nora Elementary School, every teacher teaches their students some health related

information. They do not really have lesson plan or sort of thing, they have the activities reading

more like comic book. So during the health education session the teacher would engage in the

reading with students and discuss about the reading. The teacher provided me with the activity

reading Great the Body Shop that is similar to the class lesson plan as supposed to say it. If I

was to observe in Middle or High School classroom, it will sure turn out very different for me.

But with High school I know how the classroom setting and can recall some of the materials that

the teacher taught us back in my high school years. I remember we had to watch movie related

to Health Education and fill out worksheet based on that movie. We have to do activities and of

course homework for that class. Some of the health terms in the book is very difficult to

understand, but it was helpful to come to class and listen to the teacher gave lecture on it. I do

not really know on how the Middle School would doing with the lesson plan or materials since I

am lack of observation at the school for this. I find it really interesting with the Elementary

School, but I think that it also a good way to engage students related to Health Education as well

I would say. Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease

prevention to enhance health as standard would use in the classroom.

Physical Education Classroom Observation Experiences

With Physical Education I observed at Carl Wilde Elementary School #79 in 34 street. I

proud of her, because she is old, but she had enough energy to be with the student. She will retire

soon. in physical activity, achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

She explain me a lot of information about physical education and how to planning with our

student. All of teacher and student met at the gym and doing activities. Everything is able to

accommodate all of the students. Student should know and be able to relate with physical

activates to move into the future and student opportunity to learning in physical education class.

They Participates regularly. The class include with exhibit responsible personal and social

behavior that respects self and others in physical activity during the class period. It all about how

student stay health and student to enjoy, be challenge, and having a self-expression in their life

and study well. All action I saw they use is healthy and safely. The best practice she begging with

is active participation for student, skill development, and assessment. Her lesson planning was

very awesome and everything going step by step during her class. She does lot of different

activity during the week to not get student boring.

Teacher Comments

Mr. Dalton loves his school and students. He wishes the students got P.E more than 50

minutes per week, but some schools get less than that. He has his choice of when to teach and

what to teach so he loves the flexibility. He loves showing the students different games and

giving those opportunities to move and be active and live a healthy life.

I did not get any comments from Mrs. Laswell because I did not get a chance to discuss

with her on this. Her students were under control, but there was a girl that cause trouble

throughout the whole class. Mrs. Laswell asked her to go out in the hallway and had

conversation with her.

Dr. Pamela Dorsey is a nice person and loves her student. She is very funny and very

kind person I can see through her face. The first day I went she was so very happy to see her

student and a new person come to observe her class. She also wants me to come back on

September 29, but she suddenly got sick and she is not coming to class. So I havent got any

feedback to her.

Summary

With the overall observation experienced it was eye-opening for me to actually go out

and see it myself. I really enjoyed the Physical Education observation; deeply in love with it.

Seeing the students engage with each other to build healthy relationship and/ or life, it was the

best moment to spend my time with it.

First, I observation class and my experience was Dr. Pamela Dorsey taught her class

student it was very organization the way she planning for student. She check student whose

participation in class and all students are entering quiet into the class. Student make sure be

standing in their line and using self-respectful one another. No one can talk during her teaching.

Student walked quiet. Student working with partner and passing a ball to their partner. Student

having opportunity to discussion with their partner and talk during the activity time. When she

have a lot of student she separate in two small groups, so every student can participate in each

activity. A lot of different activity they do I have never see until I observed. There was very

enjoyable to meet with teacher and kids.

I was using one activity with student call Lets go hutting it was very grate activity to

do with student first and second grade. I can hear student with their voice yelling and excited.

My goal to use this activity is to developing student action. I explain the activity first and directly

student to standing in line. In this activity one person has to be a leader and other student has to

follow after. Before activity start Boy and girls lets go hutting I ask. And then they said okay

lets go. We start our activity and everyone sing walk, walk, walk, everybody walk, walk,

walk. We start walking in sixty second and bang I said and everyone one have to run back to

their spot and I will have to catch them. We can use different word like skip, jump, slide, hop,

jog, and etc. Student love this activity a lot. Because when I said bang and I try to catch them

they were so excited and they are running so fast to their spot. I will use this activity with my

student in future. My has learning a lot of things during I observation the classroom.

With Health Education classroom, I wish I should have known that they Elementary

School does not really have lesson plan. In that case I would find Middle School to do my

observation on this, but it was fine overall with the experienced of Elementary School.

At first I plan to do with my partner on this assignment, but then there was

miscommunication between us. Both of us did Physical Education and left out Health

Education. For future, I think that when working in a group or with partner, it is very important

that the communication is well manage.

Guiding Questions

These Answers and Notes from the interview must be submitted as a part of the Observation
Project.

The gym/ classroom able to accommodate all of the students and activities. They use Motor

skills and movement patterns, movement concepts, physical activity, health enhancing physical

fitness, and value of physical activity. They used clear stop and go signals with the students.

They had clear expectations and a routine. They used clear stop and go signals with the students.

to watch where we were going when running. Each student has an opportunity to participate in

the activities being taught. They use Clear routine and expectations were set before class. If

students were talking he would look at his watch until they would quiet down. Check for

understanding was used after activities. They review questions at the end of the day were used

as an exit ticket. It was a one-time lesson. The teacher need to focus more on depends on how the

student is doing in the classroom. They love to showing the students different games and giving

those opportunities to move and be active and live a healthy life.
