But, even in our daily lives mathematics is everywhere in our use of distance, time and money. These study guides continue the innovative and
committed attempt by the Department of Basic Education to improve the academic performance of Grade 12 candidates in the National Senior
Certificate NSC examination. There is in fact not an area of life that is not affected by mathematics. The great writers and poets of the world have
the ability to draw on words and put them together in ways that can tell beautiful or inspiring stories. If we look back at some of the things that
developed over the last century space travel, advances in medicine, wireless communication from television to mobile phones and materials a
thousand times stronger than steel we see they are not the consequence of magic or some inexplicable phenomena. Mathematics is even
present in art, design and music as it informs proportions and musical tones. Many of the most sought after careers depend on the use of
mathematics. An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. Mathematics is the language that nature
speaks to us in. Learners are also referred to specific questions in past national exam papers and examination memos. Many of the modern
technologies that have enriched our lives are greatly dependent on mathematics. Workbooks are distributed free of charge from the Best Education
website and App. For however great these challenges seem, we know that the physical universe is knowable and that the dedicated study thereof
can lead to the most remarkable advances. Each of the Mind the Gap study guides provides explanations of key terminology, simple explanations
and examples of the types of questions that learners can expect to be asked in an exam. Far from being just a cold and abstract discipline,
mathematics embodies logic, symmetry, harmony and technological progress. We continue to update the exams for grade Everything Maths
Mathematics is commonly thought of as being about numbers but mathematics is actually a language! To achieve this, the Department has
produced a series of workbooks to help learners in Grade In a similar way, one can draw on mathematics to explain and create new things.
Everything Science When we look outside at everything in nature, look around us at everything manufactured or look up at everything in space we
cannot but be struck by the incredible diversity and complexity of life; so many things, that look so different, operating in such unique ways. Yet,
what is even more remarkable than this seeming complexity is the fact that things in the physical universe are knowable. Marking memoranda are
included to assist learners in building their understanding. The greater our ability to understand mathematics, the greater our ability to appreciate
beauty and everything in nature. They were all developed through the study and systematic application of the physical sciences. We can investigate
them, analyse them and understand them. The physical universe really contains incredible complexity. There are also nine English First Additional
Language study guides. The series is produced in both English and Afrikaans. What are the textbooks? It's being able to differentiate between
what you know and what you don't. It is this ability to understand the physical universe that allows us to transform elements and make
technological progress possible. More than any other language, mathematics is everywhere and universal in its application.
