Watch out parents! Inoculation is not always enough.

Even though you thought you had vaccinated all your family against every kind
of disease, this one you can contract. It comes silently; it enters your minds
compromising your principles and, eventually, changing your life style.
Inoculating your children is not enough to prevent affluenzathe disease of the
rich; you should also show them how not to get infected.

We tell our kids to value spiritual things rather than material ones, but a broken
mobile phone makes us feel more upset than a seriously ill neighbour. We tell
them not to spend a lot of money on unnecessary objects, but we buy a
luxurious car, even when our old vehicle still works. And we tell them, of course,
not to judge people according to their social status, but we look down on those
who wear ragged clothes. Without noticing it, we are infected with the virus of
affluenza and, unwillingly, transmit it to our children.

Whats done to children, they will do to society, said Karl Menningerand he

was totally right. It has been proved that kids imitate not what we say, but what
we do; and this affects their future behavior enormously. For instance, they will
have a growing dissatisfaction with their possessions, not to mention their
insatiable desire for buying more and more. In the same way, they will act
indifferently to people in need or the sick. Is that the kind of human being we
want to raise?

We consider that educating our children about moral values is not enough to
prevent them from catching affluenza; we should struggle to create coherence
between what we say and what we do. Otherwise, our message will be
ambiguous and our children wont be immune to this social disease. Eradicating
it from our homes is just a matter of dutifully following our own pieces of advice.
