Consider a single-family detached house with the following dimension0,s which is located

near Piacenza. A) Using the residential load factor method, calculate the cooling and heating
loads of the building considering the following characteristics:

-Height of the building is 2.4 m.

-The external wall, that is built around 38 mm - 90 mm wood studs, is made up of the
following layers (internal to external):

13-mm gypsum wall-board

cavity between the studs which is filled with glass fiber insulation . The
insulated cavity constitutes 70 percent of the heat transmission area, while the
studs, headers, plates, and sills constitute 30 percent.
100 mm common brick
13 mm wood fiber board
13-mm- 200 mm wood bevel lapped siding.

- The summer and winter U value of the roof can be considered to be 0.25 W/(m2 K). The
external surface of the roof can be considered as asphalt shingles with medium colour.

-Heat transfer through the floor can be neglected.

-All of the windows are made of heat absorbing double layer glass with a wooden frame.

-The door is considered to be made of wood with the thickness of 5 cm.

- Windows on the west and east walls are supposed to be fixed. The window on the south
wall is considered to be half operable (with insect net) and half fixed.

- Internal Shading of all of the windows is an open-weave light drape which is 40% closed.

- The construction quality can be considered to be average.

-Consider number of bedrooms to be 1 and number of occupants to be 2.

- Consider the ventilation and infiltration to be independent and the take into account the
following properties for Air: Cs=1. 23 W/(L. s. K), Cl=3010 (W/(L.s)

- HVAC system (furnace based) is in the attic with the leakage rate of 5% and R-1.4
