Description
The DOVAC Double Injection machine is a machine with characteristics
similar to the normal DOVAC Automatic Injection machine. The main
difference is found in the capacity to inject two products in one bird in exact
dosage. A normal DOVAC Automatic injector can be transformed into a
DOVAC Double Injection machine by replacement of the syringe base. It is
extremely important to realise that both injected products go through one
needle and will be in contact under the skin after injection. This requires
absolutely a proven compatibility of both products.

Double injection line principle
Main line and second line:
The double injection plate can be seen as a system with a main injection line
(the pink arrow) and a secondary injection line (the green arrow). The main
injection line works as the single injection machine. It moves forward the
needle, injects the product and moves backwards again.

Detection valves 1 and 3 both receive air supply from the machine through
the red tube. When the main injection line has completed its injection, the
valve 1 opens the air signal going through the green tube to connector 2 and
consequently initiates the forward movement of the piston of the secondary
injection line (green arrow). When the second product has been pushed out
of its syringe, the detection valve 3 will open and give a signal regarding the
end of cycle to the machine. Both lines will move back to the initial rest
position.

Double syringe and single one:

DOVAC Double syringe

Standard DOVAC Syringe

The syringe of the main injection line is called a DOVAC double syringe. This
syringe is characterised by two vaccine inlets. The big inlet is for its own
vaccine and the second smaller inlet is used for the product arriving from the
secondary line. The syringe of the secondary line is a standard DOVAC
syringe. This syringe only adds a dose of product through the sterile
connection tube in the main line but does not move itself.

Connection of syringes:
The DOVAC double syringe 1 always
comes with a connection screw 4 to allow
connection with the standard syringe 2.
The transfer of product going from the
secondary line to the main line (or from
the standard syringe to the double syringe 1

if you like) is done through a sterile plastic
tube 3.
First fix this tube on the double syringe 4
and place the other end in the connection
screw. Push the plastic part on the
standard syringe and use the connection 2
screw to secure the locking.

Preparation of the machine
When working with double shot system you must know that one vaccine is
placed after the other under the skin. We do not claim to keep them separated
and thus compatibility is required.

In all classical cases we put watery vaccine in the main line and the oil
vaccine in the secondary line.

In any case you must realise that both products will be exactly dosed but will
come in contact when going in the birds to be vaccinated.
Check correct dosing of the combined syringe output. Verify injection quality
as usual

Vaccine tubes:

Piston base ISO Old piston base

You can fix the vaccine tubes in the black plastic clips as shown on the image
above. Make sure that the double syringe is in outward position when the
tubes are fixed.

Needles:
Since you work with two products going through one needle in short-time, we
recommend the Terumo Neolus needles with dimensions of:

0.9 x 25 mm (20 G x 1 inch).

Priming:
When you do the priming of the
syringes you can prime the
standard syringes first (see picture
on left).

Connect it to the double syringe with the

connector (like the right picture). Push a
few times on the piston of the standard
syringes until the product comes out of
the front opening of the double syringe.

Now you can prime the DOVAC double syringe

keeping the sterile tube connected in between
both syringes.

Dosing:
The total dose coming out of the double syringe should exactly be the added
volume of both individual syringes.
You can use 0.1 ml / 0.1 ml and 0.1 ml / 0.2 ml. If the 0.2 ml product is cell
associated MAREK vaccine, please ask us for our special syringe for this
application.

Do not forget: we recommend the Terumo Neolus needles with dimensions of

0.9 x 25 mm (20 G x 1 inch).

Maintenance

How to implement the double injection piston base:

Transition from single to double injection

The four tubes connecting the syringe base with the machine must be
disconnected (see the doted yellow line). To do this you must switch of the
machine. While pushing on the ring of the connector around the tube you can
disconnect the tube. Do this for all four tubes.

Unscrew both nuts indicated by

the yellow circles using the keys
supplied along with your upgrade
set as shown below.

Place the double injection plate on the machine and connect one by one the
tubes by pushing them in the connectors.
Connection point 1 receives the red tube coming from the detection valve A
and B
Connection point 2 receives the green tube coming from the same valve B
Connection point 3 receives the black tube from the front side of the air
piston B and the tube of the rear side of the air piston B is connected with
connection point 4.

Fix the two main nuts in the machine again to position the double injection
plate.

To find the right position of the plate you should fix a needle on the syringe
and adjust the plate position according to the required needle position as
described for single injection machines.

Changing the double injection line for use in a
single injection:
Before doing any modification please switch OFF the machine.
The secondary line is no longer activated in this case. Thus the end of
movement signal will not come from the detection valve B of the secondary
line. We will therefore disconnect the green tube coming from the detection
valve of the secondary line (connection point 2).

The air piston of the secondary line should not receive air anymore. Therefore
we will disconnect the green tube that goes to the connector C of the piston
of the secondary injection line. Push on the white ring around the tube at the
connector and pull the tube out of the connector
This tube must now be placed in the connector point 2 of the machine and will
inform the machine about the end of movement of the main injection line.
You can now switch the machine ON again to check if only the main injection
line is activated when presenting a bird on the machine.

Shock absorber of secondary injection line:
Replacement of the shock- absorber spring

Unscrew the threaded rod of the

shock absorber. To do this, you have
to turn it to the left (use a flat spanner
of 10) while keeping the shock
absorber in the same position using
the tool as shown on the left picture.

Unlock the rear nut from the shock

absorber as shown on the photo (turn
counter clock wise).
Be careful, this is the most difficult part
of the procedure.

Clean the different parts (body, rear nut

and cylinder). Lubricate the cylinder and
the spring with white grease. Place the
new spring in the shock absorber and
close the rear nut tightly using the same
method as used for unlocking but now
turning clock wise.
Adjust settings if needed.

Replace shock-absorber spring every 500.000 injections.

Piston line settings:
Basic Settings: distance between piston holder and shock absorber

The ISO base eliminates the need to adjust the distance between the piston
holder and the shock-absorber.
The distance is fixed by a mechanical bilge A.

With the old piston base the distance

between piston holder and shock
absorber should be 15.5 mm.
If it is bigger turn clockwise.
If it is smaller turn counter clockwise to
obtain the right distance 15.5 mm. 15.5

Distance between the front part of the return brace and the detection valve.

The distance between the front part of the return brace and the new detection
valve should be 13 mm.

If the distance is not 13 mm, you can

unlock the two screws of the return
brace and place the bracket at the right
distance.

Tighten the screws and check the

distance.

NB: for the piston base equipped with blue and black detection valve, the
distance between the front part of the return brace and the new detection
valve should be 11,5 mm.
