1. Descending Chroma5c Long Tones - Chalumeau Register

Breathe deeply out and in before playing the exercise. Use a fast, focused air stream
through the en5re clarinet to maintain a full, centered sound. Use the correct chroma5c

2. Ascending 12ths Warmup

Take a deep, full breath before beginning. Use a fast, focused air stream for a full, centered
sound. This will create clean connec5ons up into the clarion register. Keep the embouchure
and jaw stable - avoid bi5ng the mouthpiece to get the notes to speak. If the upper note is
not speaking or an undertone is present, try pushing up slightly with the right thumb in order to
slide more reed into the mouth. Put a space or take a breath between measures so the
low note speaks clearly and easily.

3. 12th Plus Arpeggios

Breathe out and in before beginning this exercise. Crescendo from the rst note to the
nal note for each exercise and hold the nal note for as long as possible. Then breathe in
deeply and begin to play in the next key. Play with a full, focused sound. Remember to use
Right Hand Down for the throat tone notes. This exercise can also be played while
sounding a drone on the tonic note, which is useful for training the intona5on of octaves,
Ohs and thirds.

4. 3-Note Chroma5c Exercise

This exercise uses only 3 notes of the chroma5c scale at a 5me and repeats each paWern
3 5mes.The chalumeau register is given below, but they may be performed in any range of
the clarinet. Special aWen5on should be given to using the correct chroma5c ngerings.
The goal of this exercise is smooth, even connec5ons between ngers rather than speed.
Work for speed aOer achieving a clean, crisp nger technique.

Repeat each measure of eighth notes three 5mes before ending on the half note.
