WHY To let the participants realize and value that their body is sacred.

WHAT 1. To direct the students to the person of Jesus Christ, the perfect model of living moral life.
2. To help them understand the value of respect and love for themselves and others.
3. To assist them in discovering the innate value of themselves that they are loved, beautiful and precious in the eyes of God.

GRACE: Lord Jesus, I beg for the grace to have a deep felt realization that my body is sacred so that I would grow in respect and love for
myself and others, following Your examples.

Reconciliation, and song practice for the mass. Remind them to submit their permission slip signed by their parents or guardians. Cellphones and

HOW Recollection Proper

ONE-DAY RETREAT
TIME CONTEXT PROCESS
7:00 Registration
8:00 Retreat Disposition Movie Clip The Father's Love Letter is a compilation of 57 paraphrased verses from Genesis to
Opening Prayer Revelation that speak of God's love for each person. This will give the retreatants the image that God
is a loving Father whom they can approach anytime.
Dear God (Hand-out 1) Present to God your feelings and why you came to this retreat and
what are you willing to do to make it well. The success of the retreat depends upon how generous
you are in responding to the promptings of the Holy Spirit during this recollection.

TIME CONTEXT PROCESS

9:00 Personal Prayer and Reflection Opening Song: Tinapay ng Buhay or any Eucharist song
during Holy Hour
Reading: 1 Cor. 6:17-20 (Hand-out 2)
This part of St. Pauls first letter to the Corinthians speaks of his exhortation for those who are
engaged in sexual prostitution. Here, St. Paul explains the mutual relations between the Lord and our
bodies, and also touches on freedom as related to morality. Paul shares his vision: our body as a
TEMPLE, sacred by reason of Gods indwelling Spirit and as NOT OUR OWN, but for the Lord through
His act of redemption. Hence, he concludes by saying that we should glorify God in our bodies where
our relationship with God is intimately expressed.
The facilitator will use this scriptural text to lead the students to a deeper reflection using the
song How Beautiful.

Song for Reflection: How Beautiful (The facilitator may play again the song, if
necessary.)
The participants will be asked to:
1. look intently on Jesus in the presentation that accompanies the song
2. take note of the parts of the body mentioned
3. learn from the example of Jesus how to use our body parts to give glory to the Father, as Jesus,
our perfect model, had done.

Reflection Questions:
1. What verse, phrase or word in the song is most meaningful to you?
2. What is the Lord telling you in that verse, phrase or word?
3. How have you concretely and personally experienced that verse, phrase in word in your life? (Focus
on just one experience.)
4. What feelings were evoked in you during your time of prayer?

Response: Baby Dance (Psalm 131:2 like a weaned child is my soul within.) Through this
dance, the participants will prayerfully use their body to praise God and to manifest their
surrender to His love. As babies in the loving hands of the mother, the students also allow God to
hold them, giving them peace and serenity in His secure embrace and protection.
Steps:
1. Hands in surrender position.
2. Step, close, step, close. (step to the right, close feet by bringing them together do it twice)
3. Step, close, step, close. (Same with Step 2 but to the left)
4. Walk towards the center for 4 counts, hands raised up.
5. Walk back in place for 4 counts, brings the hands down.
6. Sway to the right, then to the left, turn to your right.
7. Sway to the left, then to the right, turn to your left.

Closing Song: O Sacrament

9:45 Journal Writing

10:00 Snacks

10:20 Small Group Sharing Five per group

Plenary Session Ask one representative from each group to share

11:30 Processing The facilitator will draw out from the students their present realities concerning issues on respecting and
valuing the sacredness of their bodies. The following sample questions can be used:

1. Based on your observations, how do students of your age use their bodies to glorify God?
2. Cite specific examples of what is done by some teenagers using their bodies but not to glorify God
according to what was mentioned by St. Paul in the Scriptural text we read? The facilitator should
also ask more questions, if necessary, to lead the students to identify as many examples of abuse of
the body.

Using the scriptural text from 1Corinthians 6:17-20 as springboard, the facilitator will address the
realities of fraternity/sorority, fads and trends, drug addiction, cigarette smoking , drinking liquor,
materialistic/liberal mentality/ lifestyle, influences of media, cyber technology, computer/modern
gadgets, intimacy and pre-marital sex side by side with the values of genuine friendship, responsible
freedom, respect & valuing of self, study, time and family directing them to the person of Jesus as the
perfect model of living moral life.

TIME CONTEXT PROCESS
1:00 Activity (Web of Life) 1. Retreatants will form five groups of ten members per group.
2. Students will pass the ball of yarn to the classmate whom he/she wishes to thank God for a particular
part of his/her body. The suggested form of the affirmation is: I thank God for your (part of the body),
NAME, because __________________. (Examples: I thank God for your lips which utter words of
encouragement each time I feel down I thank God for your hands which never fail to come to my
rescue each time I need your help, etc.)
3. Step 2 will be repeated until everyone has affirmed everybody whom they wish to affirm. One
student may give or receive the yarn more than once, provided each one in the group has received
the yarn already.
4. Once all the groups have finished, the facilitator will invite the students to look at the WEB of LIFE
that they have made. They will be asked to see the effects of the following on the over-all web:
a. Pulling by one or two students,
b. Grabbing the two or three neighboring webs so as to apply tension,
c. Letting go of the yarn by 1, 2 and 3 students, progressively.
2:00 Group Presentation The group will think of a presentation (prayer, song, dance, poetry, artwork, etc.) which will capture their
feelings or experience while doing the activity.
2:20 Deepening The facilitator will give inputs about the activity: on our connectedness with one another within the
body, the family, society/community and with God. The students will be led to see the effects of how
they value their bodies on themselves, their families, their community, their country and their
relationship with God. Some suggested examples which the facilitator can use are: POSITIVE:
development of athletic and/or creative skills, NEGATIVE: smoking or drug addiction, indecent
manner of speech, gestures and dressing, etc.
