There are two sources of data collection

-c Secondary Source

Data Filtering

The puropose of filtering is to purify the data In filtering there are above two cases, in data
filtering our purpose is to select those cases which are fulfilling our purpose or criteria e use
to filter the data by Data Filtering when we get or find data from Secondary Source

Œractical Method

[pen Employee Data from the samples of SŒSS It will be usually in Disk Drive C > Œrograme
Files > SŒSS > Samples > Employee Data

Data > Select Cases > , as under

Click on Select Cases and then this window will appear

Click on ³if condition is satisfied´ and then ³if«´ button will be shown Click on this button and
this pan will open

Now for example if we want the cases who have 2 or above education First select the education
variable, then give it a condition as ³edu>=2´ and then press ³Continue´ as under

See you data in Data View and the cases you want will be shown and the other cases will be
crossed As shown under

In the above picture you can see that data no 4 and 2 are crossed, why ? because the education
level in these cases is below the 2 year And these are not the cases which are needed by us

Another example would be ;

If we want to select those cases who have 2 or more year of education and salary above
30,000/- and below 50,000/- then we will perform it as under

hen we go Data > Select Cases, then which window is to appear, the second option in that
window is

ac åandom Sample of Cases

c Select the ³åandom Sample of Cases´

c The button ³Samples´ will appear

c Click on this Button

c The window will appear

c It is used to select the cases randomly

c It has two option
Ac In first we can tell the SŒSS that we need approximately 0 % cases, then
it will automatically select the 0 % of cases from the data set
Ac In second option we define that we need the cases for example; ³Exactly
450 cases from the first 400 By this it will give us all the cases between
400 and 450
ac Based on Time or Case åange

c Select ³Based on time or Case åange´

c The Button of ³åange´ will appear

c Click this button and this window will be appear

c

c In this option we can select the cases by giving them åange For example 0 to 20
Click on continue then the selected and unselected cases will be shown as under

 c Filter out unselected cases

a c If we select this option, then all the data will be shown, but the unwanted cases
will be shown crossed and not to be the part of any statistical operation, but you
can see them in your data view
2 c Copy selected cases to a new dataset
a c If we select this option then the selected cases will be copied in a new data set, in
this case the actual data will remain same without any change
b.c Dataset name: this field is for to give the name for new data set
3.c Delete unselected cases
a.c If we select this option then the unwanted cases will be deleted from actual data
set
