Education is defined as the process of acquiring knowledge, skills, values,

beliefs, and habits through the experience of others and or personal experience.

Educational methods include, but are not limited to: teaching, discussion,

research, training, and storytelling. Education frequently takes place under the

guidance of educators, but learners may also educate themselves. Education can

take place in formal or informal settings and any experience that has a formative

effect on the way one thinks, feels, or acts may be considered educational.

Education is not life; education is life itself (Boydston, 1967).

The role of education and schooling in our society is incredible important.

It is explained as: the transmission of certain attitudes, knowledge, and skills to

the members of a society through formal systematic training (UK Essays, 2013).

Schooling brings students and or apprentices opportunity to be educated in a

discipline that provides the support they need to be competent and competitive in

society.

In a democratic society, education and schooling is a crucial combination

because is the foundation of the people that launch the resources and programs

that benefit the community as a whole. The people of a democratic society also

have a wide range of schooling and education options that enables them to further

pursue their interests and provide their community with a needed service.

Culture has an immense impact on the way children participate in

education. The influence of culture on beliefs, values, and participation styles of

education cannot be overestimated. Some cultures encourage both genders to

learn and be educated, while other cultures only encourage a certain gender to

seek out higher learning. While is it important to keep in mind that different

cultural groups tend to follow particularinteraction styles, there is tremendous

variability within cultural groups (Gutierrez & Rogoff, 2003). Subsequently,

educators need to recognize individual ideologies regarding education and

learning and incorporate them into their individual lesson plans.

Every individual student has their own unique way of learning. He or she

could respond most to visual, auditory, kinesthetic, or a combination. With this in

mind, it is important that educators of all grade levels create lesson plans that

compliment these different learning styles. In order to achieve this goal, lessons

can be structured for students to look at physical models or pictures, listen to

lectures or music, or imitate/manipulate the focus of the lesson. Just because one

student may not learn in the same manner as his or her peers does not mean he or

she is slow. It just means he or she processes information differently. Einstein is

quoted as saying: Everyones a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to

climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid.

I do not plan on teaching in a formal classroom in my future, but I can

appreciate the men and women who do teach and plan to teach. However, I do

plan on being involved in my future child(ren)s education and like my parents, I

hope to provide the best that I can for them. This and the fact that my mom is also

a teacher heavily influences my philosophy on education. I want the best for my

children and for our future generations.
