Do you think jobs in your chosen sector or sub-sector are increasing or decreasing?
I think that the job opportunities in my chosen subject (Being TV and Film) will only increase
by the time I reach a point in which Im in a profession. The reason I say this is because the
media industry is vastly growing as a whole, in 2015 in media there was 2.9 million jobs
which was 9% of the total jobs in the UK at the time. The propagation of the internet as a
whole will also be beneficial for me when looking for jobs in this industry because of
globalisation and the new worldwide job market that will follow. However my sector (TV and
Film) within media is being overtaken within media by things like IT, Software and Games
meaning it may be a little more difficult because of less demand for TV programmes and
films.
My sub sector in particular (post-production) hasnt changed much in the last 3 years (8,900
8,650) or at least hasnt changed significantly enough to give an estimation how the
industry will look by the time Im working however I can say that it will be likely to stay similar
to what it is now (8,650 in 2015) or drop very slightly.
From a personal perspective, are there any equality and diversity challenges presented by
this sub-sector?
As a percentage women make up 34% of managerial roles but only make up 24% of the
industry as whole, which may be an equality problem because they seem to be over
represented within these roles and men would seem to be being overlooked to fulfil these
roles.
