    The parable describes a man who entrusts his wealth to three servants in varying amounts before going on a journey. Two servants double the money they were given through diligent work. The third servant buries the money out of fear and returns only the original amount. The master praises the diligent servants and rewards them with greater responsibilities. He castigates the fearful servant for not putting the money to use, and has his money given to the most productive servant. The lesson is that God expects us to use the talents and gifts he has given us productively to further his kingdom, not passively preserve what we have been given.
